I agree, experience matters. A fit Walcott would be feared, Sterling could be a major surprise. His form in the second half was superb.

Enough with the "he got the ball" nonsense. It doesn't matter. It was a reckless/dangerous challenge end of story.

Sterlings tackle is hard, but he gets the ball first and there is no other way for him to make that challenge, stuff like tat is what is taking tackling out of the game.

Are you trying to be the stereotypical English fan, or are all of you actually like this?

I don't think it's that bad of a tackle, just late and slightly reckless.

Gervinho and Drogba are carving them up.

His momentum takes his following leg through him, getting a RED for that discourages slide tackling.

Imo 20 seconds before LINK is just as bad if not worse as the ball is gone before he kicks Wilshere in the face. Theres more intent there than there is in the Sterling tackle(but im sure theres a reason why Valencia foot is that far of the ground for a ball in the air), if Valencia and the subs dont react like that theres no red card for sterling, maybe a yellow.

Thanks for answering my question.

I'm all for keeping tackles in the game, but it was poorly timed and if Valencia is planted and Sterling, who comes in studs up at mid calf level, makes contact, Valencia's leg breaks in half like a twig. That's why it's a red card.

Arsenal actually missed his pace when Walcott went down. Glad my Serie A squad picked him up.

Yeah, how good he's been has been a most welcomed surprise. I've always liked him since his days at Lille.

I think he needed the change of air.

He seems like such an introspective guy. . . the positive or negative with him tends to snowball.

He did. Good teammate and never caused a problem.

Hope he does well and they get out of a very tough group.

Can you recall a tougher WC to actually advance out of group stage? Some big time nations are going down.

Yeah, without really making a conscious choice I've realized I'm really rooting for Ivory Coast to do well.

The WC does seem to be getting more and more difficult . . . more solid teams that are tough outs like Bosnia, Japan or USA and also the South American sides like Uruguay, Colombia, Chile all being at high levels as well.

A big European power is going out in group stages for sure. The big shock would be Spain.

If you're really rooting for them, call them by their preferred name:

Cote de Ivory.

They hate the Ivory Coast name. Have actually petitioned FIFA to make the international change. To them, it is a trademark of colonialism.

Who do you consider the powers?
To me its only really Spain and Germany who are 'powers', Portugal have a decent record in tourneys, but I wouldnt consider France or Holland to be a power anymore.

Cote d'ivoire

odd that English "ivory coast" is "colonial" but not French "ivory coast".

However, totally agree that there's no reason to not call them whatever they want.

Italy is certainly a power since they have the same amount of WC titles as German and Spain combined, won in 2006 and are coming off Euro finals.

That said, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if Italy either failed to make it through their group or made it the finals.

Holland is certainly a power too but I would guess many see them as slight underdogs to get through their group.

France and England are certainly big names with lost on big money players that you could well say are powers even if a notch below the others historically.
