Did Roy not pay attention to Gibbs at Arsenal at all this year? Also I probably would have taken Carrick over Lampard but that's just me. And Ben Foster over Ruddy? Ehhhhh.

Milner was nailed on to go, his discipline on the wing will more than likely be used vs Uruguary and if we go through and play against someone with dangerous wingers.
Don't think Lampard will even sniff the field.
The more I look at it the more I think Rooney should be dropped, however, he wont.

I think Rooney is at his best when he's just behind the striker, as he can control the game. If he plays at striker England can play Wilshere or Barkley there.

Not really.
He hasn't played well in a major tournament for England in 10 years, we will almost certainly play with 1 up top and Sturridge is better than Rooney. But if Rooney does start up top then Sturridge is pushed to wing and given addition defensive duties which takes away from our most dynamic threat and/or leaves us exposed on the left.
I dont think he would work well with Barkley or Lallana playing in the middle.

Also pretty unhappy at there being no place for someone like Curtis Davies.
We have 2 players in the 23 who regularly play CB and tweeners in Jones and Smalling. If Jones isn't fit John Stones will be in the squad which is a good addition, but I'd rather he be the addition as the 4th out and out CB not the 3rd.

No no Rooney is a better player. But put Sturridge up top and have Rooney behind him where he can control the game.

Sturridge is a better goal scorer than Rooney.
I'd love it if Rooney played behind properly but he doesn't, his ego is to big(I'm t surprised as he is always touted as our saviour, when hes not, in an England shirt he is a prima donna and an underachiever) and he goes from playing just behind to playing CM because it seems like he thinks he is the only player on the pitch who can do anything, he lacks the discipline of a Totti for example in playing that position.
I think dropping him, even for a game would check his ego a little and be better for the team

As a single striker Sturridge is alot better than Rooney, I'm not sure how there can be an arguement here.
He has averaged 1 in 2 in the prem twice in 10 years at united for Christ sake. Sturridge has started one season as a full time striker and done it.

Yes and he probably saw the 200 goals they conceded anytime they came up against decent opposition.

Slow down here. He has only played as a lone striker for two seasons, 2009-10 and 2011-12. He was pretty brilliant both seasons. Otherwise he hasn't played as a pure striker very often, and yet he still has produced both goals and assists. He's a player that demands the ball, and if someone can rein him in, can be an absolutely brilliant no.10.

A lot of our struggles, Chelsea game aside, came when Gibbs was out. He has the ability to shut down a wing by himself, while Monreal needs help. Gibbs is thoroughly underrated, though his final ball needs work. I think he's better defensively than Baines, but isn't nearly as good offensively as either Shaw or Baines.

Rooney has been asked (forced) to perform MANY roles at United.
Sturridge is a great player, AMAZING season. Rooney is better, both at striker AND just behind.

It happened occasionally under Capello, i.e. Croatia in 2008. He can actually work as a lone striker, probably better than Sturridge, though Sturridge offers pace that Rooney doesn't have. I just can't see any justification for dropping him unless Hodgson is going to emphasize defensive shape, which doesn't make sense since he didn't call in some older defensive stalwarts.
