I'm not sure about other states but growing up in a small Texas town, soccer was something you did because you couldn't enter school organized sports until the 7th grade. At that point there was never any support for it afterwards unless you were at a larger school, 4-6a, whom could/would pay for it. It was all football, baseball, track, and basketball. Cities are getting bigger in Texas, but there's still a shitload more smaller schools than larger. Until kids can be indoctrinated at an early age through continual teaching and involvement in a wider field, I think the talent/talent pool issue is going to continue in the US. Or we'll eventually be 51% Mexican by census and it'll happen naturally, whatever comes first.

If this tactical effort continues tonight, Jamaica wins.

Pulisic had a relatively short stay in the German academy system and was mostly developed by his Pennsylvania club team. McKennie was at FC Dallas before moving to Schalke. Adams never stepped foot in a German academy.

Just like the guy who assumed our whole 2002 team came up through Europe, I like how everyone just assumes that all of our good players must have learned to play in Europe, because there's just NO WAY that America produced that.

McKinnie played lights out. That was much better soccer.

And Altidore better fricking start vs Mehico

Teaching real soccer to youth players takes patience and mental discipline. The records suffer for a while until the technical ability meets up with tactical movement. As a result, coaches don't bother trying.

applies to ben simmons.

His style is terrible (arm on side) and hes unable to do it from deep.

No one made him learn.

I could make him an 80% ft shooter, before next season.

Its unlikely he ever gets 80 for a season.

I was watching holland v sweden yesterday.

Playing not to lose.

Our talent pool is the brightest it’s been, maybe ever, certainly in a while. It could dip down again but I’d like to think it will only get better.

2026 could be a critical year for US soccer. They’ll need a good showing in 2022 for sure but making a deep run in 2026 while the WC is in North America could be huge

I don't think we have to become a possession based team to be a good team. We have to get better on the ball and movement off the ball but I don't think we should be all doom and gloom, particularly with the youth.

I don’t think possession will ever be our game but we can still become better at it. We are getting the right talent and the younger players are starting to play more and more like how other powers’ players play.

I really do think we will make some noise in 2022 and could make a real run in 2026

Well that's just a straight up lie.

I guess you are right. These guys sucked and had absolutely no role to play in our success:

Berhalter, Gregg - Crystal Palace Donovan, Landon - Bayer Leverkusen
Friedel, Brad - Blackburn
Hejduk, Frankie - Bayer Leverkusen Keller, Kasey - Tottenham
Lewis, Eddie - Fulham
McBride, Brian - Fulham
Moore, Joe-Max - Everton
O+Brien, John - Ajax
Regis, David - Metz
Reyna, Claudio - Sunderland
Sanneh, Tony - Nuremberg
Stewart, Earnie - NAC Breda

That was never said by me. I thought McKennie played well. If he stays with Schalke, he will feature more prominently going forward as he gets better. That bald-headed guy is still our best player in the midfield. His decision making is top shelf. I wonder if he played in Europe? McKennie just might be leaning from him, but that is just a guess on my part.
As for Pulisic, his training and playing with Dortmund just might, in the SMALLEST of ways, have had an impact on his game. But as you stated, he pretty much learned everything he knows about the game in Pennsylvania.

Way to read the rest of my post.

None of these guys came up through European youth academies, which is the whole point of this thread.

I never said anything about where Pulisic learned the best parts of his game.

You need to learn who you are arguing with.

ETA: But for the sake of the argument, you mention McKennie, you give no credit to the FC Dallas youth system for training him from 09-16, which led to Schalke buying him in late 2016? That seems ignorant on your part.

He's the typical eurosnob who thinks that any modicum of success within the USMNT is due to some kind of european influence and won't let facts get in the way of that.

Again, 19 of the 23 on the 2002 World Cup team had their youth careers in America (17 in college, 2 in IMG).

I didn't mention them at all. However, as stated earlier, there has been improvement here in the states, and that includes featuring the Academies prominently. My take, Schalke saw potential, and he is evolving under their tutelage. In short, I don't believe that he plays at that level if he just played with Dallas. If you disagree, cool.

Broski?

Besides, I don't see it as arguing FWIW. We were, as part of this post, also discussing tactics. That part of the game is severely lacking in the states imho. Feel free to call me a Eurosnob, but denying the influence of the European clubs concerning tactics makes no sense to me.

At any rate, whomever you are, I hope you had a good 4th. It would be nice if we could dust Mexico on the Gold Cup final.

The women's national team has been the best in the world for over a decade. USMNT sucks arse, but don't throw the women in there.

This didn't happen.

Pretty much all of our goal kicks were short to either Miazga or Long and then we would work it to Bradley.
