I thought this deserved its own thread. It's no secret Moyes is a HUGE Donovan fan. I've been holding out hope they'd offer him a loan deal after the conclusion of the MLS season. I guess that's still on the table.
Well, per NBC Sports, Donovan has hinted at spurning Man U in favor of the Galaxy.

RW is wide open at Man U right now, though he would have been competing with Valencia and Zaha, in his current form, I wouldn't have been shocked to see him surpass the two.

And I know I may get killed for this but I'd rather someone be a role player/spot starter in one of the top if not the top league in the world than a regular starter in MLS
As many bounds as MLS has made the EPL is still way ahead talent wise

Horrible decision. Playing in LA won't push Donovan. And I think he could have played a lot at United.

I think Donovan would've been a rotation option at RW for United, but I wouldn't see him as the consistent first choice starter.
But that's just me.

It's all speculation at this point, but Valencia has been pretty underwhelming lately and apparently Moyes still rates him ahead of Zaha. He did well running at defenders on Monday, but his crossing was abysmal.
It's tough to become a first choice player at United, but I do think Donovan had a legit shot.
It will probably be a "by comittee" position for the forseeable future.

He's one of the best crossers in the world, and he's coming off a mediocre season. I think he'll get back to form.
But the pressure to play Zaha is already immense, and an aging Donovan just doesn't seem like a first-choice winger for United, no matter what he did in the Gold Cup.

This is the same team plus Zaha that won the league by over 10 points last season. I don't think Donovan would have gotten regular playing time.That being said I think he still should have joined.

Valencia's problem is that he's even more one-footed than Robben is, IMO, and not as lethal with that one foot.

There is no inherent answer to the situation. At his age, his progression is going to be minimal. He doesn't need to "push" himself. It's all mental at this point. He needs to be in a comfortable environment where he can focus on his game and get mentally prepared for the WC. If he feels like LA is the place for that, then it was the right decision.
A loan is one thing, a permanent move is an entirely different animal.

Very true.
But it would be hard to turn down a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world at a position that he could get some sort of playing time (again, I don't get you folks saying he'd start).
