My Brazilian friend says that when the teachers would leave the room the kids would all take off their socks and roll them together until they made a ball, and then start playing with that.

Well, I'm mid-40s, so I definitely don't see it happening in my lifetime.
I don't even see USMNT getting out of Group in Brazil (Bold call, I know). As a matter of fact, I don't see the USMNT scoring 3 goals in Brazil.
Until the U.S. starts consistently producing players that have significant playing time at "Tottenham or better" clubs in Europe, there is no shot to really make it past first round of the knockout stages.

Lol Paraguays soccer roots go a lot farther back than the states. That's the problem. These smaller countries live football. We don't.

I can see some truth in this. You look at some of the best national teams and most of their regulars play for clubs that are regulars in the Champions League. Let's hope that our boys in Spain and our 16 year old kid at Man City can turn out to be something special.

Brazilians would wrap a shirt around a coconut and play. You will never see an American kid do that. We will never win one.
Just drive through Mexico, the conditions these kids play in make them better. They don't have nice fields and equipment like rec leagues here in the states.

When I was a kid, we would play football with a can, or baseball with a can or a rock and a stick. Any yard with little or no shrubbery was a gridiron or diamond.
I didn't know WTF soccer was.

So is fielding a team of Hawaiian kids our only hope? BTW, I don't think you see coconut trees in Europe.

Exactly. How many of y'all played tee ball? I didn't know what soccer was until I was 7. Everyone I know played some form of baseball growing up, not soccer.

Remind me who has won the most world cups? I'll give you a hint, not the country that invented the game. They have a whopping 1.
Look guys, when I was a wee lad my parents dressed me up in LSU and saints gear. Not Arsenal gear. I had to figure that out on my own. Its not going to happen until parents hammer soccer into the American youth.

Yeah Brazil has won the most but isn't Germany right behind them, the country with the strongest economy in Europe. You can use the poor v middle/upperclass for other sports as well. Some have done well and some have failed on either side.

It's laughable to even think they are better than us right now. They're EnglandJr with less talent. They have about the same lack of chemistry though.
