Different take on Jurgen Klinsmann's managing career (i.e. not negative)

quote:

Klinsmann’s detractors fail to realize a lot about his coaching tenure outside of the US: finishing third place with Germany in 2006 came on the heels of a disastrous Euro in 2004 under Rudi Völler, as they failed to even make it out of the group. The 2–0 defeat to Italy came in the closing moments of extra time but that third place finish was seen as a moment of triumph. Parades and celebrations were had, and he was presented with the Bundesverdienstkreuz—the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

quote:

Rather than being laughed out of his own country or being downright terrible as some would like you to believe, he was offered an extension to continue with the national team but ultimately declined. The choice was his own, not his country’s. He was the German Coach of the Year in 2006. Yes, truly terrible and laughable.

Can we save the praise/ hate Jurgy threads until official competitions? Like Gold Cup in this case.

I think it is easy to be critical of some of Klinsmann's decisions, and it is frustrating to watch this team continuously concede late goals, but I don't think there was ever a real feeling among USMNT fans that Klinsmann needs to go.

Other than the opening games of the last Hex and the decision to leave Donovan off the World Cup roster, I've been pleased with the job Jurgen is doing and feel that he's leading US Soccer in the right direction.

Only die hard MLS supporters and douches like Wynalda seem to want to bash Klinsmann. Everyone else will tell you we've at least been lucky to have him.

Why? all the news outlets aren't waiting until then.

I think the article is pretty much spot on anyway. There are people calling for him to be fired when we are in our own version of preseason.

That is quite an optimistic take. The Landycakes omission put Jurgy on the shite list that the retarded American fan who worships sacred cows will never forgive. People are idiots when they don't see how much culture has changed at the youth levels.

I'll admit that I was upset about it, and still think it was a dumb move, but we've benefited immensely from Jurgen's presence so I don't hold it against him.

Or the shitlist of the competent fans who realized that the best player in the history of our country, who was arguably the best we had at 3 positions (wing, #10, forward), was somehow not included because of some dick measuring scheisse contest.

Some of his personnel decisions paid off (Yedlin, and maybe Green) but others (not having a backup for Jozy when your whole gameplan revolved around having a hold up striker, bringing an injured Johannsson, not bringing Donovan, etc) didn't.

A lot people are quick to crap on Arena's and Bradley's contributions, but so far they have both done more than Jurgen in my eyes.
I think he's a better game manager than Bob Bradley and Bruce Arena, but I don't agree with people that say Jurgen is the savior of US Soccer.

Jurgen is catching the USMNT at the right time when our youth development investments are coming to age, and he's benefiting from his European connections to steal some potential prospects from Germany.
Soccer culture (which might not be here had it not been for those two) is way more of a positive under Jurgen then it ever was any time before.

Agreed. And those that have been here long enough understand what a radical statement that is.

TNBhoy does post some stupid shite and annoying propaganda, but he does know a good bit about random lower-tier players that only S has heard of and dreams will come to Leeds one day.

Well you just responded. Do tell how Jurgy is ruining US Soccer. I could use another laugh at this late hour, fanboy.

In all seriousness, what part of game management is he better at (and not just Arena and Bradley)? Roster and lineup selection? In-game adjustments? Intelligent substitutions? Outside of pregame motivation, what does he do markedly better?

He is an okay manager, and I hate him. I think the best thing he has done is stir up excitement and belief among the American public. The fact that you think he was right to not take Landon makes me think you are Jonathan Klinsmann or you have no idea how to rate players. You probably think Eddie Johnson has a nice first touch.

The big thing here is that I can't figure a way that either Bradley or arena gets us out of that group last year.

When Juergen has coached in competitive tournaments for us we have either won or exceeded expectations. I mean most people wrote off the world cup after the draw. Sure, in friendlies he's a dumpster fire of strange decisions and it seems like there is no plan at times, but he pulls it together for competitions.

Bedoya at cdm was strange, but I'm sure klinsman wanted to see his workrate centrally and if he could recycle possession. We all knew he couldn't already, but JK thrived in putting guys into the fire and seeing what comes out.

The Donovan thing will hang over him for years. But not as much as if we hadn't made it out of the group.
