We had some really bad first half luck after the goal and it kinda got us out of our groove. We had to sub one of our CB's, the Jozy thing, the Dempsey broken nose, Bradley not doing what he normally does. Surely he will be better going forward. Jones and Cameron were great I thought. Johannsonn was dissapointing, but Ghana was not a great match up for him. I think he could do some things against Portugal. All in all, the 3 points was freaking HUGE.
If we can somehow handle Ronaldo, we got Portugal.

The US was much more surgical on our offensive pushes, likely do to Ghana's just shite defense and aggressive style of play.
I think its hard to tell what we are capable of because we scored so early and I think we went into a defensive formation because all we need to do was draw at worst.

Seriously though, it's interesting that you say that about Turkey's depth. Unlike USA in general, the top Turkish players always have have absolutely world class skills but I guess that illustrates your point about "ranking" European sides as the smaller populations make for some large swings every few years.
I hope Salih Uçan turns into your next star. Hear though he may go for a year loan if the Roma deal goes through. Possibly Verona.

That would be a great idea for Ucan. I have no idea if he is a smart guy who will pick up the language quickly (Mehmet Topal, Tugay) or a moron who will run home crying because Italy doesn't have kebabs (seriously, this was an issue for Hakan Sukur). If he is in the former group, a loan would be great. As long as the coach isn't obsessed with winning games 1-0 and taking no risks.
Turkey's top 5 or 6 guys are awesome. But then their 7th guy sucks. The bench is abysmal, etc. At least that's how it's been since the Golden Galatasaray generation retired a few years ago. Even with all of the German kids coming in, there are lots of depth problems. Also, now with better integration and a larger number of citizens, the next Yildiray Basturk will almost always wear German colors.
The only superstar we got from Germany is a guy married to his second cousin, so that should tell you something.

We had plenty of opportunities to counter with numbers. But they didn't really look in sync and kept playing the wrong ball. The Jozy injury was huge, we were pretty much shite after he went out.

We have very few opportunities but I just felt like we had a much better chance to score than Ghana, but our defense was playing awesome.

I'm not sure we have a single outfield player that would be a guarantee to make France's 23 man roster.

Looking at your list, I'd rate France, Portugal, Uruguay, and Ghana ahead of us. Yes, I realize we just beat Ghana, but still. Even with Falcao out, I agree Colombia is better. So I'm feeling pretty good about my "US is around number 15" comment.
Of course, I only looked at your top 25, but other than Ivory Coast I didn't see any teams missing that are solid.

We are definitely not equal to those teams in terms of talent. The players France left off this WC squad would be among our best players ever if they played for us. We might be a better team than Uruguay, but Croatia and France are way more talented than we are.

Yeah, Bradley could probably beat out Rio Mavuba for a spot (ironic since Roma tried to get Mavuba as midfield depth when Bradley left)
Fabian Johnson would have to beat out Bacary Sagna for the backup spot to Debuchy.
Can't see Cameron making it for a backup riole over Mangala and Koscielny.

On the other side, players like Menez, Ben Arfa, Rami, and a multitude of fringe players would probably walk into our 23. The French know how to instill technical ability in players.
