Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly evaded €63.5 million in taxes and could have hidden even more money in offshore accounts in Switzerland and the British Virgin Islands, according to revelations from a joint investigation by the German weekly Der Spiegel and nine other European media outlets.

Der Spiegel, which said it had received 1.9 terabyte of confidential financial data from the website Football Leaks, reported that Ronaldo sold €75 million of advertising copyrights to two offshore company in the British Virgin Islands in 2014 but “apparently did not pay taxes for €63.5 million” of that money.

Spiegel shared the confidential data with nine other European media outlets, the European Investigative Collaborations, of which Spanish newspaper ElMundo reported that Ronaldo earned almost €150 million in advertisement copyrights but “in principle only paid €5.6 million directly to Spanish tax authorities, less than 4 percent of the total amount.”
