Messi lost two straight Copas to a team that isn’t even in the World Cup. Meanwhile tGOAT won a Euro against arguably the second best team in the world. Messi is also surrounded by way more talent.
Honestly it’s Ronaldo>>>>>Messi and it isn’t even particularly close.

He hardly played in the final and Eder beat Hugo Lloris with a shot from 25 yards out

Midfield wins tournaments and Portugal has a better midfield. Argentina have the better forwards, but at most only two can play with Messi.

Yeah it is. It's literally a debate about preference. Messi's losses are held against him despite the fact that getting to three finals in a row is no easy feat, and the things that Messi does well, like dropping deep, linking play, and delivering the final ball, are completely ignored.

Prob. the most annoying sports topic of all-time.

Argentina in the 2015 Copa played Chile, Panama, Bolivia, Venezuela, US, and Chile. Not a single World Cup team.
Portugal at Euro 2016 played Iceland, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Wales, France. 4 World Cup teams.
Yes Ronaldo played like 15 minutes in the finals, but that was a lot more brutal of a path to the finals. It doesn’t matter if you beat Venezuela 4-0 if you can’t score when it matters.

They also drew four of their games in Euro 16 (the game against Poland counts as a draw even though Portugal advanced on penalties) and won two in extra time. A great defensive performance. In this thread people have discounted Argentina's run during WC 2014 because Argentina relied on their defense to win games. Why isn't the same argument used against Portugal?
Also you are using CA 2016, the Centenario, not CA 2015, where Argentina faced Paraguay, Uruguay, and Jamaica in the group, and Colombia, Paraguay and Chile in the knockouts.

Messi is the best player of all time. Ronaldo is a legend but Messi is on his own planet.

Messi is the best playmaker but on the biggest stages possible he doesn't deliver anymore. Copa Del Reys and La Liga are all he's good for now. The year he scored 90 something goals didn't win him Europe or La Liga. Quite fitting if you ask me.

and a euro 2016 win too?
Does this one count as player or coach?

I refuse to confess this point but will grant you Renauldo is a better play for his team this cup

Why did you think that you needed to concede that?
Ronaldo has carried Portugal to the R16 kicking and screaming, while Messi has been wasteful and poor. Messi shot 11 times from good positions against Iceland and provided shite. He cost them points and maybe a R16 berth.

Maybe so, but it just seems so much more pleasant to be a fan of Messi than of Ronaldo.
I don't follow these sorts of things, and my take may be way off, but just from watching them on tv, I just think I'd never be a fan of CR over Messi.

I used to kind of like Messi despite my strong dislike of Barcelona and Argentina but he’s Become so pouty and whiny lately and it feels forced unlike Ronaldo who had always been that way

Has Messi quit the National Team yet like he did after the Chile match? Or is he at least going to wait until they finish their group stage matches?

Messi and Russell Westbrook are the same player in their respective sport. They can fill up the stat sheet, but they can't win on the big stage (granted Messi has won a couple UCL's). Messi, on average, creates more highlight plays because of how amazing he is dribbling, but Ronaldo makes the team around him better, which to me gives him the advantage in tGOAT discussion.
