That was bizarre man. Even that last opportunity coming down the left side, completely botched it.

Almost half the team that won the World Cup was under the age of 25

Think Uruguay is the only team that can challenge Argentina because they will make them pay for any mistakes and push the pace. Brazil seem soft. Maybe Colombia but their best bet is to play it safe.

I don't think anyone can play with Argentina when Argentina is "on"

Tonight, they were the furthest thing from "on" and Messi was treating this like a testimonial almost.

You're right though that Uruguay (and I think Brazil, plus Chile) can beat Argentina if they continue to play like they did tonight.

Uruguay has aggressive pace and yeah they can definitely hang.

Look, when Messi is on the pitch, Scaloni is going with what works. De Paul is a pivot to Messi. The wingbacks are essential to the attack to allow Messi to get lost in transition and attack from outside the box. It works and when everyone plays their part it’s pretty unstoppable.

On defense, notice where they pressure. Argentina LOVES to pressure on the wing. The philosophy is simple: an isolated area is easier to cause turnovers. Perfect example is that second goal against France in the final.

The team does have weaknesses. Height (aside from Cuti and Ota but Ota is getting phased out) and honestly we are just total shite at preserving leads.

I think Chile can hang with them for sure under Gareca and hopefully they can get a tie. I really, really like this team right now. It’s a good mix of youth and vets. They’re not intimidated by them and will get in their face. Although I’ll miss Medel vs Messi. Brazil is Chile’s boogey man though. The team a few months ago under Berizzo would’ve got run off the field so I’m just happy to see a competitive team again that can score goals and play up to their potential.

South American football is unlike any other.

The teams aren’t intimidated by each other bc it’s so physical.

When Boca beat River a few months ago a defender kicked a River player cleats up square into the chest just outside the box on a counter. Yellow card

It's already been sorted out for the World Cup bud.

Also, it was shite, but still not as bad as England/Denmark today.

Uruguay and Colombia are the biggest threats to Argentina imo. Colombia are so well managed. What he did at Melgar was really impressive.

Canada has been outscored 6-0 in its 3 matches under Jesse.

In their defense, they’ve played the Netherlands, France, and Argentina. Will be interesting to see how they play against competition they match up better against.

I don’t understand this quote. Was Canada not playing on the same field?

It’s understandable. Canada had speed. They could overcome the field condition better than Argentina when Argentina’s game is predicated more on touch

For us casuals, is this one of the tournaments where we’ll see the real US squad? I try to get into international soccer somewhat but seems like half the time I’ll tune-in it’s our B or C roster cause the match doesn’t matter.

This the real dudes playing for real stakes?
