Copa 16 now in doubt for US

After four months of doubt and speculation, all signs now point to U.S. Soccer withdrawing as host of the 2016 Copa América Centenario tournament — an event featuring stars of South America like Lionel Messi and Neymar that was supposed to be a showcase opportunity for the American soccer community as well as the United States men's national team next summer.
U.S. Soccer officials will not attend a meeting in Mexico on Thursday to determine the fate of the troubled tournament, and multiple officials with knowledge of the organization’s position indicated that if the United States does not host the Copa América, then it is also probable that its national team will not participate. One official said it was unlikely that there would be a definitive announcement about the tournament’s status after Thursday’s meeting. He said the two most likely outcomes would be for the tournament to be staged in Mexico or for a modified tournament to be held in South America.

Does anyone else think this is might be being used as an excuse by other federations to force us out over us being morons and likely making a bunch of the games in football stadiums with artificial turf? If I were heading up any of those CONMEBOL federations I sure would.

CONMEBOL, nor any other FIFA confed, doesn't give a shite about that... All they care about is $$$ and playing it in the USA is where they can make the most.

Datisa was formed as a joint venture that included Traffic Sports, Full Play and another Argentine company, Torneos y Competencias. Datisa acquired the rights to the 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2013 Copa Americas for $318 million. Datisa later acquired CONCACAF's share of the commercial rights to the Copa America Centenario as well.
If CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, Televisa and Univision can somehow obtain those rights from Datisa, then the odds of the tournament being held in the U.S. go up considerably. A complicating factor however is that Datisa had already sold some of the commercial rights to third parties, a group that includes Televisa.
