Does this not seem like a terrible idea for the USMNT? CONCACAF aims to replace friendlies with new nations league competition

It doesn't sound like a terrific idea, but I think actual meaningful competition will be better than playing a European teams 3rd or 4th string team.

I'd rather us be a regular participant in the Copa America than this

I just don't think playing tiny Caribbean and shitty central american teams will benefit us at all, however I do understand why the smaller nations in CONCACAF would like this idea

I'll be more OK with this if we can make participation in the combined Copa America every 4 years a permanent thing. It made a ton of money, so it will very likely be a permanent thing.

I do have some worries about this, though. It seems like the direction a lot of confederations are headed in, and that's why we're doing this. Sounds like they're voting on it this weekend, and if all those tiny Caribbean and Central American countries want this, there's really nothing the big 3 in CONCACAF can do about it.

Just noticed in the article the CONCACAF president uses playing England as an example of friendlies that don't benefit our teams.

Shots fired.

If CONCACAF mattered more in international soccer, that quote would be getting lots of attention.

I hope they make the combined Copa America a regular thing.
It made a ton of money and got a lot of exposure for concacaf.

Plus it will help the US out a lot by playing good opponents instead of the 4th team european squads or the basically semi pro Caribbean teams

By itself it's stupid. Making the smaller countries more competitive at the expense of your big 3 is absurd. No amount of competition is ever going to make these tiny islands anywhere close to legit soccer teams. And playing the likes of St Lucia does absolutely nothing for us

They do, because it means that the bigger countries will have to travel their way at some point, which equals an uptick in ticket sales.

The voting is a formality, this will be passed.
