Inept. That's about the extent of it. Sanchez is not Premier League quality.
We went from being in position to win the league, to now fighting for dear life to gain a Champions League berth.

If the price is right…I say sign him. He is quite young, and quite talented.

It’s where I thought that we would be.
The funny thing is that I was pretty much alone in saying that we are a legitimate top 5 squad.

Sure he is. He is better than half of the starting keepers in the league.
However, he isn’t capable of bringing the team to a title.
They have to upgrade there…period.

Yes, just what we need another young puss who can't finish at all.
Are we trying to remain young forever or trying to actually win something? Would it kill us to sign a couple of experienced war horses who can help this fragile squad? Our clown owners still treat this like a 12 year old playing FIFA on Manager Mode.

Didn't get to watch the game but just watched the highlights, same as it ever was. Laughable back line defending, Jackson not being good enough, GK there are no words. Quit signing every fricking winger and GET A FRICKING SPINE

This year was always going to be a transitional season.
I see us as ahead of schedule.
A proven scorer would be nice, but Jackson played pretty well today.

Jackson not being good enough,
He was our highest related player and with a decent ball from Palmer, he ends up with a goal and an assist.
Colwill played poorly, Cucharella, while playing great going forward, can be a liability in defense, Palmer (our best player) can have off days (or worse…be man-marked into being a non-factor), and Sanchez has the penchant for assisting the opponent (5times this year). He can receive the ball at his feet, maneuver it into a position to pass, and then pass it strait to the other team. The no man’s land shite today was exceptionally dumb. Still, outside of his majorly gaffes, he is pretty solid between the sticks. At the end of the day though, he is not consistent enough, or capable enough, to anchor a title run.
The team is VERY young.
Growing pains suck.

Don’t understand your constant defense of Sanchez. He’s not PL caliber. We’ll be lucky to finish top 7 with him in goal.

Fair point. So exactly when do we no longer consider the current collection of players "young"?

I’m not defending him. I think that he is serviceable at best.
As for him being PL caliber, his contract says otherwise.
There aren’t many keepers that fit Maresca’s profile globally.
As noted earlier, great players aren’t just sitting around chilling.
They are locked down with big contracts.
I want to hear who you think fits Maresca’s style of play, that is also available.

Good question.
My answer is…not in a half of a season with a new coach.
My take is that we are light years ahead of the second youngest team in the league (Spurs), who are TWO years older on average.
Chelsea is basically a u-21 team.
To be top 10 at this point is crazy in terms of results.
We are ahead of schedule, not behind. Lastly, while better results would be nice, outside of a handful of moments, the level of play overall has been quite high.
I’m bullish on the blues going forward.
We still have a week in the transfer window, let’s see what happens.

here is the problem as I see it
it is two fold
1. they are extremely young and figuring it out on the fly. a mark of growing pains is inconsistency
so we see maddening misses, mental errors, failures to convert etc etc etc
this has lead to comically bad failures to finish counters and horrific lapses in the back
experience and reps can slow things down and fix some of this
2. the offensive system maresca uses keeps the wingers very wide. when cucu folds up on the left it works better but that is not enough. the fullbacks on the right side are not effective folding up (gusto) or unavailable (james) due to injury
so the wingers are either lofting crosses to no one or they are blasting into the final third and trying to beat two or three levels of defenders head up with usually terrible outcomes and fighting off counters
right now jackson is not a traditional striker in a wide system looking for any way to score, at this point he simply is not a consistent aerial striker so the crosses to him are futile. there is no other big target in the front to capitalize on the cross game. yet they keep doing it on a wing and prayer
ironically prime Giroud is the exact guy they need, his entire career he attacked everything near him with a sense of desperation to score the blues are sorely lacking. but OG is an all time goal scorer for a reason
teams have figured out funneling palmer into the congestion in the middle and swallowing him up or pushing him out and keeping him out wide is the way to stifle him.
sanchez is barely serviceable between the pipes but bad with the ball, he is not the guy IMHO. GKs dont typically get better with the ball at his age (27), they either have it or they dont.

I thought that it was a shite ball from Palmer. Could he have attempted the shot, sure.
As for most #9’s, I have yet to see more than a handful that could pull that off with their weak foot.
He collected, and put the ball back across. I have no issue with his decision.
Again, with a decent pass, it’s a EASY goal.
We just disagree on what constitutes “decent.”

Solid points all around.
1. Youth = frustration
2. System = currently flawed
-Jackson is weak in the air
-Wing play does not = goals
-Palmer can be man marked
-Sanchez isn’t a good fit
I suspect that what you listed in 2 is going to influence moves from the squad going forwards.
Let’s see how this plays out.
I’m still bullish on the blues.
