For sure, I understand the rules. I just don't like them and am glad it wasn't called in that situation. If we are going to win the last trophy we are up for lets at least earn it.

Again it was obviously a handball but I'm glad we weren't gifted a game against Brentford on a call like that. They didn't deserve that and neither did we.

It's really not that hard to understand. I don't want to be gifted a win from a ref in stoppage time against a League 1 (or whatever they are) side.

Brentford didn't deserve to lose like that and we don't deserve to win like that.

They deserve their replay at the Bridge.

That said I hope we thrash them 10-0 next time but with this squad I guess I should be happy with a 1-0.

It's not a gift. Its a rule.

Opinion doesn't always reflect scores. IE:QPR game we dominate possession, pound their keeper they get one shot and it goes in. Should that not have counted because it's not fair?

I'm glad Brentford gets to play at the Bridge. They did play well enough to earn it.

And just to clarify my what about last trophy, we are still in Europa.

A bad one, imo.

That's our fault for not converting on possession and chances. There is nothing unfair about losing because you waste possession and can't finish. In fact you deserve to lose. Also, we were nowhere near "pounding their keeper". 75% of our shots were David Luiz blasting it into the nosebleeds from 30 yards out.

Unfortunately. I have no interest in winning the losers bracket.

I'm curious, what do you think the penalty should be for a handball in the box?

Unless it denies a clear goal scoring opportunity there should be some alternative than just giving a PK (and essentially a goal) to the other team.

Just like when some player running full speed gets a touch on the ball 2 yards before it goes out of bounds and there is zero chance of him ever getting to the ball before it goes out but then he gets knicked and goes flying. Or when a player is fouled at the edge of the box going away from goal. No way that should be what basically amounts to an automatic goal.

Punishment is way too harsh for the crime. Just let them take a free kick from the spot of the foul. Just because it occurs inside some arbitrary lines doesn't mean it should have to result in a PK imo.

Here is where I have an issue. I agree with this in certain circumstances. I've seen hand balls in the box called when hands were down and it was just tough luck. That guy had his arm extended literally reaching. There is no excuse. That is a PK and always should be. Just because there wasn't 3 guys unmarked in front of goal doesn't mean it's not a goal scoring opportunity. Also, I know you said you had no interest in winning the "losers bracket" but it's mind blowing to me that you'd rather lose it. Who actually hopes their team loses?

A PK is called in that situation MAYBE 5% of the time. It simply does not happen. Give the refs just a bit of credit.

I never said I hope we lose. What I do hope is that we play as many reserves/young players as possible and don't waste the energy of the guys that we will need to make sure we finish in the top 4 down the stretch.

Maybe but it happens ALL THE TIME in the other scenario I presented where a guy barely gets a heavy touch on a ball that is clearly going out of bounds and then gets knicked by the keeper (usually). It's ridiculous to award a PK in that situation when the guy had 0% chance of even getting near the ball again before it went out of bounds.

I agree what you're saying to some degree... like no Pass Interference if the ball is uncatchable... It's a lot harder call in this case and could open up a messy can of worms...

Fair enough and I agree that it could be a case of be careful what you wish for in terms of giving refs more discretion but sometimes things don't have to be so black and white and common sense should come into play.
