quote:

"Football can be a tragedy when you go to penalty kicks," Blatter said.

"Football should not go to one to one. When it goes to penalty kicks football loses its essence."

He added: "Perhaps Franz Beckenbauer with his football 2014 group can show us a solution, perhaps not today but in the future."
I wonder if anything will come from this.

It may be better than the idea they eventually come up with.

Men in Blazers threw out the idea of doing the PKs prior to actually playing the match in case it ended in a tie.

At 120 minutes- start reducing the number of players on the field by one every 5 minutes

Whoever pays Blatter the most money wins in case of a tie.

I was about to say I like that, but then realized it could lead to Chelsea winning a shootiut prior to a game and start turtling from minute 1

Round robin Kumate style combat between three players from each club.

Players are chosen based on how loud the crowd cheers when the PA announcer calls out the on field contestants names.

I'm accepting nominations for FIFA president.

Sure Sepp, let's just let players play more than 120 minutes in Qatar in 2022, gonna be so fun watching people DIE on the field representing their country from heat exhaustion, heart attacks, etc....

If you don't want to go to penalties, win the damn game in the 120 MINUTES of the game and we won't have to worry about it

I love PK Shoot outs, there will never be an alternative, if there is, I will give up on the game

I like the other ideas better but you could also do an 8 on 8 set piece scenario. Ball is placed at the corner flag of the possessing team's choice. Offense has 8. Defense has 8 plus the goalie. Play begins when the corner taker puts the ball into play. The possession ends either on a goal, a foul on the offense, or the ball is cleared past the midfield line. Alternate until one team scores and stops the other in the same OT "period".

I like the idea of doing 7 or 8 man sides but then that may just kill those 7-8 who are still on the longer it lasts

at some point in the match, you'd have to expand the number of substitutes allowed to enter the game.

That's why if you do that I think you have to set it up for some sort of set piece. Having all those guys cover the entire field would kill them.

I think soccer's worst tiebreaker is away goals.
