You can guess wrong and save it with your foot. It happens all the time.

I agree with you here. Didn't think about that.

They can. Bit again, the GK still has to make the save. Its not just about guessing the right direction.

For a goalie, if he does not guess right, there is NO CHANCE that he will block the ball.

Well that's just false. The Chilean GK guessed wrong on Hulk's PK today. He dove left, Hulk shot it up the middle and the GK made a kick save with his knee.

If that guy as able to predict 85% right or whatever it was, why can't these teams do it all the time?

Did you watch today's shootout? Chili only converted on 2 of 5 pk's. And a couple of times the keepers went the right direction but couldn't make the stop.

because it's a guessing game, well, there is guessing in all sports

Yes, there is guessing in everything. But there are various levels that the guessing effects the outcome.

A few of those were due to bad kicks, not the goalie guessing right.

Goalie has to GUESS right to be successful for the most part. Thre's no skill involved on the goalies part on a PK.

As a goalkeeper, I find this humorous. Even without video evidence on opponents, keepers learn how to gauge PK takers, just like anyone else lining up to take a shot. It's not an exact science, and as the takers get more accurate, they get better at hiding cues.

They are just throwing their bodies in a direction hoping that the ball will hit them. It's a lot different from making a save in regulation.

A lot of times that's due to the keeper moving in one direction at the last second, throwing the shooter off.

But I thought you said there was only some skill in kicking a ball.

That fact that you think it is that simple...

Just stop man. The shot could be high, could be low, could dip or rise at the last split second. Those balls move a LOT. You honestly sound like you just don't know the first thing about the game.

They could also guess right but have the timing totally off as the kicker chips it in slow mo style making the GK look like a total dumbass.

To say it involves no skill and only guesswork means any of us can do it. Get me in as goalkeeper and I'll be murdered by my countrymen by Sunday.

Hardcore soccer fans hate noobs trying to "fix" the sport. But they can't differentiate between good ideas and stupid ideas. This is actually a legitimate discussion. It's a poor way to decide the match. Having it decide the World Cup in 2006 was horrible.

They used to replay the match if it was tied after 120 minutes.

How elitist of you to cast a wide net of judgement like that.

You do realize you are comparing golf to soccer to make your point. I'm just saying.... That's really dumb
