Based off the group stages, who do you think deserves the award right now?
My vote goes to Muhamed Besic. Dude locked down Messi, was a defensive monster, high pass completion percentage, showed composure on the ball and was able to start attacks from the back and linked up that midfield beautifully. Only thing lacking was a goal.
Honorable mention:
Ahmed Musa and Granit Xhaka

Didn't get out of group, so he won't win it. But, he was really impressive.

What would you consider the cutoff for young player?
Thomas Muller is 24, I'd say he's having a pretty good tourney.

The award says max age of 21. Neymar is 22.
And while they didn't get out of the group, I personally don't think that should play as big a part as it probably will. But in the end, that's not up to me.

Seems boring to say Neymar since he's already a full fledged glamour boy but Neymar.
Edit: I was thinking U-23. U-21 is a good question so far. . .

Memphis Depay has looked pretty good for the Netherlands.

Origi from Belgium maybe if he makes an impact in the ko stage. I think he gets the start vs the US.

The player must be born on or after 1 January 1993.

I would've said James Rodriguez, but U-21 is a tough one. If France go far, I can see Pogba winning it.

Sounds like he has no chance...

Besic is the front runner if he qualifies. Neymar and James are just a little too old. Depay could pass Besic in the knockouts.

James Rodriguez is 22, if that is young enough he gets my vote.

He plays in Hungary, but I doubt that lasts very long.
