We were extremely lucky. My wife and I entered the Visa draw and she got selected in the 4th? round.

Even though we thought the prices were crazy then, we bought tickets to two knockout games. Being selected out of 4.5m applicants seemed to be too good of an opportunity to pass up.

A few things to be aware of: we purchased our tickets on October 6 and still don’t have seats assigned. Maybe some of those 3rd party resellers have seats (vip package?), but if you look close most listings on stubhub say “Seat details pending, this ticket is a category 1 but not guaranteed to be in this location.” So it is very misleading on the seat location in the stadium.

The FIFA site is supposed to be the only way to resell tickets. They will charge 15% to both buyer and seller, meaning a 30% markup just to break even. I’m sure there will be work arounds to this, you can transfer tickets for free, but there’s going to be a chicken and egg situation going through a 3rd party: paying for tickets and hoping they actually transfer them, or transfer tickets and hoping they actually pay.

This was the info on pricing when we were selected. I imagine some group games are going to be relatively affordable, but anything after the group stage, especially with bigger teams, is going to be ridiculous.

quote:

You could buy a “Team Group” package. You pick the team, but you don’t know where (or who!!) they are playing, and you have to buy all 3 games. Category 1 was over $1000 per ticket for Portugal. Over $900 for England. $270 (category 3) - $750 (category 1) for Ecuador. Argentina is already sold out. For single game tickets: All final tickets are gone. All semis gone. Quarters gone. I couldn’t find a single category 4 or category 3 ticket for the “single game” option in any venue for any match. Category 2 ~$330-370 for group stage, Category 1 ~$450 for group stage. This could work out depending on the draw, or you could see two teams you care zero about.

Only safe way is clearly through FIFA in this case. Yes you will pay more in Marketplace exchange if you don't get lucky in a lottery but at least you know you'll have valid tickets.

Anyone see FIFA is taking a 15% cut on any tickets sold on the exchange

Clearly this is going to inflate prices everywhere

Just saw it was already posted

Also check this shite out, tickets for some matches before the draw where one price and now after the draw have gone down for lower demand matches.

So people got fricked over paying FV for tickets

My Instagram feed is full of articles about countries demanding FIFA pause ticket sales until they figure out a way to make it more affordable.

My favorite was a headline from some site that said "This is the WC where FIFA truly doesn't care about the fans"

Nothing is going to happen considering 5 million people requested tickets two days ago... amidst numerous boycotts.

European fans are going to learn real quick that, in American sports, no one gives a shite about what fans want as long as the money is coming in... an the money is going to continue to come in.

Is it just the resell link on the tickets page on the fifa website?

It's the one that says marketplace. You have to click the explore details to get to the screen that has marketplace. Don't know why you can't just link the page.

LINK

I got in but to sign in they sent me a security code to my email and ive been waiting for the email code just so I can sign in.

I just got in. The prices are a little misleading. Saudi Arabia vs Cabo Verde in Houston says around $150/each but when you get to check out it's over $300/each. All the other tickets i see are outrageous prices. I applied for some tickets the other day so i'll just wait and hope i get those and if not, i'll bite the bullet down the road when prices come down a little bit hopefully.

I just got my code and now it wants me to reenter the waiting room. So, this has been fun.

It is also the first day, I would keep checking. Remember, you aren't guaranteed those tickets you requested.

You could end up needing the marketplace anyway.

Yeah this is going to be a cluster. It said the lowest ticket price was $350 so I added to my cart but its $292 in my cart.

And you don't really know what you are buying, just what category.

Lol I picked a different game with the European D team, and they want $800 for the cheapest ticket.

What is this? Is this different from the current open lottery/draw through January 13?

I chose two tickets for $220/ea. for Spain vs. Saudi Arabia, and I assume if I get chosen, my credit card will get charged the $440. How is it that you're seeing a different price? Is this from a previous level of the draw?

To be honest, the whole process is confusing. If i'm understanding correctly, these tickets on the exchange currently must be from people reselling that were able to get them in an earlier draw. I could be wrong.

Ohhh that was my confusion. You're talking about Marketplace which opened today, not any of the draw stuff. I could have also just scrolled up and have read more posts.

Going to peruse just for the hell of it.

My gauge for testing the ridiculousness of pricing was the IC Playoff (likely DR Congo) vs. Uzbekistan match in Atlanta. Category 3, which is all I am interested in regardless of match I attend, were already 'currently unavailable' but the low-end price was $201; in the random selection draw the same tickets were $140/ea.

Here we go.

It will be possible to get cheaper tickets. Will just have to search them out.

is the exchange open for good now? Or will it close at some point? I found some for $190 in houston but may wait for a better game if the exchange will stay open until the cup.

Funny that it said currently unavailable for category 3 for that match when I looked and the lower-end price was not that... did you just click through anyway despite the 'unavailable' status and it works?
