Geeeeeez. This is the best team Belgium will ever have. They can't get eliminated by Japan!

I mean, maybe. Belgium reorganized their youth system in 2000 so it's likely they will produce teams at this level or just below.

I'm going to stop picking teams I think have a chance at winning this thing. I fully expect France to disappoint me next match now.

Hot take: Japan is a better team tactically and technically than their ranking. I'd wager they are better than this current US generation.

I was really hoping when he was diving backwards that he would have knocked it in the goal

Does the first line of this chick singing this song for the apple commercial seriously sound like the worst out of tune shite ever?

technically much better than the crop of players who didn't qualify this go around

One of the main missions of the J-League was to develop technical superior players.

I really enjoy watching Japan play. They are about as underdog as you can get. They lack size and athleticism, yet they don’t play scared.

They might lack size but they definitely don't lack athleticism. They have some speedy players.

They did that by forgoing the franchise model and instead focused on professionalizing formerly amateur teams. The technique of Japanese players is superior to Australian and American players, with all three countries starting domestic professional leagues at the same time.
