What Eduardo goal are you talking about crazy? I don't think I recall.

As for potential CL fallout pickups: Dortmund (Goetze), Napoli (anyone in their front 3), Valencia (Banega), Lyon (Gourcuff), Ajax (Vertonghen, Eriksen), and Marseille (Ayew) have all been rumored (or I pray for them) at some point. Then you have Marvin Martin, M'Vila, Montolivo, and others who play for teams not in the CL.

Oh yes, just yes. Either one. Lille is going to ask way too much for Hazard IMO. Love him, but we won't overpay.

How the hell did I not remember Song made that pass? Watching that makes me sad that Eduardo never fully recovered from his leg break, but also happy that Ramsey seems to be nearly recovered from his.

And glasser, I forgot Lille was at the bottom of their group, but you're right, we're probably priced out of Hazard at this point. We've been linked with Moussa Sow in the past, but Senegal are in the ACN so I doubt he'd be a January pick-up.

He hasn't made a pass like that since. It was so perfectly weighted. He was awesome that game. He had a lovely little backheel to Eboue also. I remember thinking that was the moment it finally clicked. He was actually really good at the end of 08/09. He just hasn't reproduced that sort of magic in the final third, though he's been serviceable at times. I think Wenger realizes that he plays best as a single pivot DM rather than a double pivot player.

I might be buoyed by the victory, but if our team plays like we did in the 2nd half all year, we won't need anyone. But we won't. We need another winger, or ideally, someone who can play across the front three. It would be really useful to have a player like Balotelli or Welbeck, versatile attacks with good technique and size who can play anywhere on the attacking line. We're limited in our versatility upfront. Gervinho, Walcott, and Van Persie can play across the line, but we need more players. I would take a poacher like Gilardino, or a player like Jovetic, for example, but its difficult to think of a prolific young attacker who is versatile enough to play at every position in a front three who would also be affordable. I mean, a player like Hulk would be sweet, but he won't leave Porto for less than 30 mil. There are some more options that are escaping my mind at the moment. I'mm sure a a new star will appear at the Euros or the ACN.

I don't necessarily disagree. If we were to only add another person who could play along the front 3, I wouldn't be too upset. Looking forward to Park getting his opportunity in the PL. He looks to have the skill and pace to play anywhere in the front 3, but clearly is most efficient centrally. We probably won't buy any defensive players. Mertesacker would have to really, really suck the next 2 months for Arsene to pull the plug on that experiment and bring someone else at CB. We seem set with Sagna/Jenkinson and Gibbs/Santos at the full back positions as well. Wouldn't mind a Montolivo or Banega midfield acquisition, but our midfield when healthy has Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky, Arteta, Song, Diaby, Frimpong, and Coquelin. I only think we will add in that area if it is a top-class player at the right price.

Still have to clean up set piece defending though. Holy hell its terrifying every time we give up a FK within 40 yds of goal.

I can't see Diaby making it here. Rosicky won't last past next summer. Arteta might last two more years. We need midfield reinforcements, as the next generation of midfielders from the academy will be too raw.

A player I could see us buying is Lukas Podolski. He was rumored to be leaving Koln, and we are as good a destination as any. We might get him for cheap, as his stock fell in a big way after his time at Bayern. I wouldn't mind him at all.

Well the last former German National Team stalwart-at-a-young-age-then-drops-off-the-map pickup hasn't been a great so far...

Who do you guys think starts tomorrow in the big match against Marseille?

Szcz
Jenkinson-Kos-TV5-Santos
Song-Arteta
Walcott-Ramsey-Gervinho
RvP

That's my guess. Marseille is smaller and quicker. Would be surprised to see Mert start this one as Marseille doesn't particularly have a physical threat. The rest is our top XI. Arsene talks about this as a cup final so I have to think he'll put his best team out there.

Yeah that's about what I expect.

Also, I don't think Mertesacker has been bad. He needs to acclimate on the fly, which is really difficult for any player to do. After he settles down, I think we will see why he is a regular on Germany. Right now, he's suffering from the same problem Koscielny suffered from last year, which was mainly strength. His positioning on the Lampard goal was poor, but the irony is that he jumped forward a yard, misreading the flight of the ball, which caused him to mistime his jump. Those things can be easily corrected.

I agree that he'll adjust though I do think he's been bad though. He's made some really shocking mental errors for a guy with his experience. As you said though, he's adjusting on the fly. Same goes for Santos...

He hasn't been beaten for pace yet, but he's been beaten by lateral quickness, which most big men struggle with. His top speed at the WC was 28.35 km/h, the same as Wayne Rooney, and faster than players like Mata and Dempsey. We've still been able to play a high line, which is important for our pressing game.

He's not Squillaci, Cygan, Silvestre bad. His errors have been matters of positioning and strength rather mental errors, at least in my opinion. The PL is a league that focuses more on the physical characteristics of players rather than the technical characteristics, especially in defense. It's why ball-playing CB's in the PL are so rare (which is why Ferdinand was worth so much money). We are seeing that adjustment, and outside of those two errors against Chelsea, he hasn't made a big error in recent weeks. In ten games, he's committed only four fouls, and only one yellow, which tells me that he's not getting beaten on the turn. He does need to be more aggressive in the air, which is something both TV5 and LK6 had to work on when they moved here.

Has anyone ever noticed Ramsey's sweet leg tat? It's good to see our players get tatted up.
