TBF, Tomi was the third guy to get the ball on the delay throw. He didn’t take that much time, just bought the card of the two before him.

Wish we had the side to go get a second and a third to put teams away, instead of immediately bunkering in and time-wasting when we go up. Makes for nervy endings.

Job done. Started in basically a 3-2-2-3. Finished in a 5-4!

Great defending by us.

Great resilience. This result will matter in April and May.

We are winning while adopting a new style of play. This is the same shite City did early last year, grind out results til it clicks.

3 points. frick with us.

Second card on Tomi is laughable. Partey got lucky on that challenge in the box. Not sure what's up with not playing Gabriel.

All in all, good result away at Selhurst.

Good win, I think both teams we have beaten on the road are likely to top half of the league when all is said and done

Brutal two yellow cards on Tomi. He was the third guy to get the throw in so he got stuck with got the first card.

The second yellow he barely touched him. Ayew goes down and the ref says second yellow. Brutal stuff.

I think the only reason Gabriel is not playing is because we can't have two Left-Footed CB's when Partey is stepping into the middle because we play a back three at that point and both defenders going to the right would be left-footed. Only thing I can think of.

Declan Rice is class and will be wonderful to watch all season, but WILLIAM SALIBA MY GOODNESS. The man is worth $200 million. Best CB I have seen for Arsenal in quite some time. That last ditch slide tackle was unbelievable to watch live.

Win today shows the toughness and togetherness we have in this team. 3 pts and a shutout on the road at a typically tough place for us.

I guess I feel so diff about this. Gabriel was better last season. Their games are diff though, and I consider missing 1/4 of the season as not reliable. He and white are literally our only defenders that stay healthy.

Plus, Saliba had to make a last ditch tackle because he took a terrible touch, did the same in the forest game.

I think Saliba is amazing, but I think Gabriel compliments him.

I know Arteta is finding diff ways to play, but we can’t line up with that back three at the etihad with partey as a part time rb.

I’ll be extremely disappointed if we end this window without Gabriel, but guys likely holding and Pepe are still on the team.

quote:

Mikel Arteta on whether interest from Saudi clubs was the reason for benching Gabriel Magalhaes again… Nothing at all [to do with it]. It’s about the games that we were expecting, that I was expecting, how I wanted to defend and attack and what I believed was the best thing. He’s played in both games, he helped us to win both games for different reasons. He was really good today, he absolutely dominated the box when he came on and he’s going to play a lot of games. But that’s a decision sometimes.

Alright this makes me feel better we aren’t selling him.

Who's the other left footed CB? Gabriel and Kiwior are the only ones?

My bad. Saliba plays on the left, but is right-footed. Maybe Gabriel is just more defensive and when we play these low-blocks he does not want Gabriel and Saliba together so we can attack more?

I feel like almost every team outside of a couple are going to play like that against us though so I'm not sure how he will juggle their playing time and these lineups.

Saliba is just so athletic. He can literally do whatever he wants in terms of making mistakes in terms of his position or on the ball, and 99% of the time he recovers. Gabby is better postionally and on the ball, but Saliba is just so insane that his presence allows us to approach the attacking game in a different way.

If Saliba is going to be the centerpiece of our new system, there is one pass he absolutely needs to learn how to make. That is the around the corner ball that Arteta used to do so well a decade back. It's that pass where the player has space to his right and curves the ball into the inside left channel. Partey is quite good at this pass too. There were times during the CP game where we had shifted Palace's block effectively to one side and recycled the ball to Saliba. In those moments, he chose safer passes, but those moments when a low block is shifting from one side to the other is what allows Saka to get one on one specifically.

Also I'm really pleased with Kai Havertz. He looks superb in that withdrawn role. Also what is crazy about this team is how gigantic we are. This is completely unlike the teams we had when Arteta was our captain, which maybe informs his desire to get big, strong players who also happen to be quite technical on the ball.
