I don't know if it makes a ton of sense for us either. Pedro is a great winger, but we need a striker, one who can put away all the chances we create.

It'd be a head scratcher. Even with Theo out, we have Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla, Ox, Serge, and Podolski all available to play outside. Wilshere, Rosicky, and Cazorla don't do much in terms of width, so I guess a winger would be alright, but we don't need to break the bank there when we've got other urgent issues.

I watched the FA Cup on DVR yesterday. Super depressed about Theo, who looked so good down the center.

I say just pay for Martinez, but then again it's not my money so...

his price is so high. i haven't watched him much, but Zonal Marking's analysis of him scares me a little bit.

quote:

Martinez is an old-school number nine – his link-up play is decent, he works the channels reasonably well when forced to, but he basically positions himself in the penalty box and gets on the end of crosses. 38 goals in 44 Portuguese Liga games underlines how prolific he is, although many clubs would find his asking price difficult to justify before he’s proven in a top league.

also, Akpom is on a one month loan at Brentford (League One side).

No Zelalem? I guess he could still be tired from the petersborough game.

could mean a few things: rest, he's with the first team like gnabry, or Crowley has surpassed him.

I'm going with option #2.

Until I read this sentence again, I was about argue with you about whether Crowley had surpassed him.

Zelalem is much closer to the first team than Crowley, based on size alone. Crowley can't be that much taller than Cazorla, who has to be around 5'5 at the most.

GZ certainly has 7 inches on Crowley but I'm not sure height matters as much as weight/strength - a feature neither have.

yeah, I was just throwing option #3 out there. terribly unlikely considering how much GZ has trained with the first team and played in preseason. one u18 match v posh wouldn't change that. it more than likely means he might snag a bench spot if our questionable players fail their fitness tests.

Spanish journalist followed by Marcotti and Grant Wahl is saying Real has changed its mind and would allow a loan to us...

not sure how credible he is, obviously.

we beat fulham's u21 team (previously unbeaten, i believe) 1-0 to reach the quarters of whatever youth competition it is. eisfeld scored on a scramble in the box.

Ox looked dangerous in his 45mins. someone there said he looked fit and sharp enough to be a sub Monday. Wenger hinted that he would be involved, so there's a good chance that happens.

damn, he scores a lot of goals. i'm not opposed. though a LW signing is a bit of a head scratcher. wiki says he can play striker too, but i've only ever watched him once or twice. don't know if that's true.

Juanma López, agent for RM´s Álvaro Morata, is in London negotiating a possible loan to either Arsenal or Tottenham (yes, they´re talking to both).

i think rambo and gibbs are out. besides the long term injuries, everyone else is back available. the only real question for me is does Gnabry start? everyone has been talking him up since Spurs, including Wenger. does he get another go or does Wenger replicate his formula from the first half of the season and play a lot of midfielders? i'm going to guess that Gnabry gets the start (though Rosicky playing wide right wouldn't shock me).

szcz
sagna-per-kos-monreal
arteta-jack
gnabry-ozil-santi
giroud

bench: fabianski, jenks, tv5 (if healthy), flamini, rosicky, poldi, ox. if tv5 is out, i think zelalem sneaks onto the bench.
