Gods of the Arsenal SLT, since you guys know far more about the club than I do, what can we realistically expect from our summer signings? Who starts and who comes off the bench, and where do they play? Also, any projected starting 11s? I figure the defense is the most unchanged from last season.

I'm probably at the bottom of the totem pole in Arsenal knowledge, but I did just draw up a starting 11 while extrememly bored in a meeting. I don't really know what is going on with RVP, so I left him out. Also, I'm not fully up to date on injuries, but I assume Sagna and Wilshere are out. So:
Giroud
Podolski Walcott
Cazorla
Song Arteta
Gibbs Vermaelen(Per) Koscielny Jenkinson(Verm)
I don't know how to do the cool formation set up like the Gods of the Arsenal SLT.

The only changes from that I can see happening are RVP up top, possibly Santos on the left and maybe Coquelin out right on the D.
Arteta might not be fully fit for starting, and Wenger did say he was going to bring the new signing in slowly sowho knows really.

For Saturday, it'll probably be
Gervinho-RvP-Walcott
Cazorla-Diaby-Song
Gibbs-TV5-Kos-Yennaris/Jenkinson
Szczesny
Going forward, who knows. Might see done formation variation and quite a bit of rotation.

From Young Guns:

Arsenal have completed the signing of Gedion Zelalem. US-born starlet has moved to London. Will be eligible from Feb, when he's 16.
quote:
Zelalem a massive prospect. US-born U16, but Germany U17's keen to poach him. Tall, rangy, pass-master. Very highly rated.

frick you Germany, you're already loaded.

quote:
Zelalem is a German citizen of Ethiopian descent and moved to the United States with his family in 2006. He has trained with both the U.S. under-15 national team and German youth program.
The USSF invited him to a recent under-17 camp, but Arsenal prefers he focus on the club for the time being.
Zelalem is not a U.S. citizen, which means he can’t represent the country in official matches. However, he is apparently eligible for citizenship through family ties and is pursuing a U.S. passport. Specific details weren’t available.
It’s unclear, though, whether he would prefer playing for the United States or Germany, or whether Germany rates him highly.
“He is obviously talented and we would love to have him,” USA under-17 coach Richie Williams said.
Sounds like it's far from a done deal as far as him playing for the US. I wonder how he feels, personally. He was born over there after all, but spent a good time in the US. Not being a citizen scares me, though, as it's much easier for him to just say, meh, I guess I'll go with Germany.
Also, sounds like he is a DLP.
quote:
Zelalem is a different case, in several ways. Contrasting the flash and explosiveness that made Adu an international sensation at age 12, Zelalem is a nuanced player who orchestrates from a deep central position and threads passes through narrow channels. He has an assist in each match for Walter Johnson and hasn’t scored.
“His sophistication and understanding of the game is far higher than anyone I’ve seen,” said Wildcats Coach Mike Williams, a former Howard University defender. “He is able to set the tempo like none other.”

I realized yesterday that I had been saying "Cazorla" improperly. I wasn't using Peninsular Spanish and I feel the necessity to apologize to someone. You seem to be the best candidate.

Thenry wrote a highly entertaining season preview for the Gunners over at K&G this morning. I'm sure you all will enjoy it: LINK

Thanks for the link War.

What is the proper pronunciation? Do I have to put a lisp in there somewhere?

While most Arsenal fans (including me) did not view many of Montpelier’s Ligue 1 championship-winning matches last season, based on the always accurate YouTube scouting network, I have deduced that Giroud is a calm collected finisher and an complete forward capable of holding the ball and distributing.
quote:
Wojiech Szczcesny has cemented himself as Arsenal’s permanent #1.
You guys spelled his first AND last name wrong, as evidenced by a quick google search. It's Wojciech Szczesny.
quote:
Albeit inconsistent at times last season, Mertesacker will hopefully serve as a solid backup to provide cover for the favored partnership of captain Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny.
*vice captain
quote:
With Jack Wilshere edging closer to full fitness after a devastating year lost to injury, Arsenal’s midfield looks to be the class of the Premier League after bringing in the aforementioned Cazorla, and with Mikel Arteta set for his second season with the Gunners.
This sentence is a bit awkward. The last part comes off as a sentence fragment. Try putting "Arsenal’s midfield looks to be the class of the Premier League" first and then listing all of the other items in the sentence after.

Nicklas “Beowulf” Bendtner will vanquish the demons of Copenhagen, decapitate the great beast Grindel, make love to his beautiful Danish royal wife, and of course scoring in football matches.

Rooster Cogburn Wenger awakes his side to finishing a respectable second in the league
Awakens. Also, I think finishing should be finish.
Not nit-picking, but I like K&G and want it to be a quality publication. I hope this helps. I was a history major in college and a Princeton Review verbal instructor for the MCAT, so I would say my writing skills are pretty good.
ETA: Otherwise a good article.

Hey, we appreciate the help. I'm just a sophomore in college so I don't catch everything. Will edit when I get home.
I thought that was how you spell Wojciech's name, so I didn't catch that.

I wasn't in doubt because I thought Tyler had it right. Heck, I call him "Wojack Sczienznezy", so I don't have a freaking clue.
But, again, I appreciate the help.

Not to mention this is false since Lucas, Gerrard and Allen is the class of the Premier League
No but seriously, Tottenham has the best midfield as it stands IMO and I don't think that will change even if Modric is sold.
Posted on 8/13/12 at 5:06 pm to LSUSOBEAST1
A healthy Wilshere and Arsenal probably does have the best and perhaps deepest midfield.

I don't bother with fact checking. I'm going to Bill Simmons my entire career with bad 90s pop culture references and giving myself a grandiose moniker
I also ground out that 1200-word article in like thirty minutes. I did it with little research besides looking at Arseblog's roster posting. It's mainly my own rambling. I read through it after publication, and noticed the grammatical issues.
RVP is still the captain, but the rest of the article is inferring that he'll be sold (hence the TV captain reference).
