I disagree. Not only is Tottenham deep, they have put in a recent bid for M'Vila and if Modric does leave, I expect them to buy Moutinho with the cash.

A healthy Wilshere would tremendously improve the Arsenal midfield. But at this point, he really can't be factored into the equation since he hasn't played in over a year and his injury seemingly won't go away. When he does return, Arsenal may then have the best midfield but I want to wait and see how he looks when that happens.

Tottenham will have an unbelievable midfield in AVB's system if they can keep Modric. EVen if they can't Moutinho will be a great player.

Depends a lot on how you classify Bale IMO. Even still, good arguments for both sides. We should have this argument on September 1st though.

If Arsenal add Sahin and perhaps Isco, i'll be walking around with a non-Viagra induced boner for a month.

I consider him a midfielder (which is certainly debatable - could also be considered a wingback) although AVB will surely have him in the front 3.

I can imagine. Just do it the all natural (Arsenal) way and save some cash.

Yeah to me he's been more of a forward the past year or so. I'd love to see a heat map of his positioning last year, because I'd wager it would be very similar to Walcott (a player with very similar production, much less hype).

But yeah vdv, Bale, Modric, Gylfi, Lennon, Parker, M'Vila along with their younger players would be a nice group. That's their best case scenario.

Ours would be Cazorla, Wilshere, Diaby, Arteta, Rosicky, Ramsey, Song, Sahin and our younger players. Maybe some DM we don't know now, and maybe Isco. If the swap is Modric for Moutinho, i think it's clear Arsenal have the edge, though I'm probably overestimating Diaby and Wilshere who've had long layoffs.

And yeah, i lied about waiting.

I've thought the same thing... He was played much more thru the center and on the right last year... He may be suited to play Hulk's role at porto on the right wing in AVBs system... Of course, he could be a dominate LB/LWB, too...

Yea I think it's hard to factor Diaby and Wilshere into the equation right now.

Both squads are deep. No matter which way I look at it though, I don't see a midfield better than Tottenham's (that hurts me to say):

Parker/M'Vila, Modric/Moutinho, VDV/Sigurdsson

is ridiculous.

I think he'll really shine on the wing if Tottenham can find a goal scorer.

Yeah, I've got no real qualms at the moment since there are so many question marks with Arsenal's MF, but I think the potential is there for ours to be considerably better. Just IMO. Sure seems like Cazorla is going to be the latest Silva/Mata (Source: Dandy). Wilshere was on the path to becoming a superstar. Diaby was France's best player in WC 2010 (not saying much, I know). Arteta was IMO worthy of Top XI in the PL last season. Song is better than Parker or M'Vila (a player we know better than anyone besides Rennes, I'd wager, and didn't feel he was worth 15mil). Rosicky and Ramsey are captains, man!

And wait a sec. Weren't you wary of spending more than 8mil on Sigurdsson?

I think there may be a bit of homerism in your post

WIlshere has only played 1 meaningful season for Arsenal. He did look world class, but he has a long way to go before he gets to that form again.

I'll take Song over Parker no doubt, but I'll take Modric over Arteta and VDV over Ramsey.

And no, my problem with Sigurdsson was never the transfer fee. I rate him highly and it was always going to take 8M to bring him to Merseyside. It was his wages that Liverpool couldn't match Tottenham (and frankly I didn't want them to).

No question.

VDV over Ramsey

1st choice CAM compared to our 2nd or 3rd (Though one I have a great deal of faith in!). Personally, I think Cazorla is on the same level of VDV, but again he's a ? because he's never played in the PL.

True. Though it wasn't a horrific leg break or anything like that, so I don't think it's unreasonable to think he'll be fine long-term. I just think we're being crazy conservative with his recovery (and that our doctors suck).

In conclusion, I think Spurs are rather top heavy, and if Modric leaves that hurts them a lot. M'Vila, Sigurdsson (only played what, 18 PL games?), and Moutinho would all be question marks. Our depth really sets us apart IMO.

Google the match from the first leg of the UCL against Barca from 2010/2011. He was the best player on the pitch.
