if you put woj on to talk about the potential kawhi trade, the lebron decision, and NBA draft news at the same time as any random world cup game, it would win its time slot. i am absolutely convinced of this beyond any reasonable doubt

and The Bachelor would pull more viewers than both... good thing i dont watch soccer because of the ratings it draws

ESPN did the same thing to NASCAR after Fox & NBC pushed them out. Sportscenter used to basically spend the first 30 minutes after the race live in victory lane with the driver, crew chief, and owner while doing all sorts of midweek features. Now it's just a little blurb on the crawl Monday mornings.

If they don't air it, dont expect to see highlights.

once again. ESPN doesnt have a monopoly on sports coverage. they talk about sports that they dont cover literally all the god damned time. the big ten championship was on fox this past year. the SEC championship was on cbs. the world series was on fox this past year. the rockets and the warriors WCF series was played on tnt. the super bowl was on nbc. they only get to show one NFL game per week. ESPN did not have promos going on for these. they didnt shoot commercials, they did not explicitly advertise those games. now tell me, did ESPN spend significant time discussing those sporting events leading up to and proceeding the actual occurrence?

once again. just use today as example. ESPN does not have regular golf coverage. ESPN does have regular MLS coverage. fox has the rights to both the US open and the world cup. why did ESPN spend so much more time talking about the US open today, and yesterday, than the world cup when it would benefit them so much more to push the world cup and get an increased interest in soccer in this country?

Yet another reason to hate soccer.

Phags like this.

If you're weren't so dumb you'd probably enjoy European club soccer. Some have a history of taunting the players on the field about that (and racial makeup), but I'll leave you to enjoy your "American sports" that definitely aren't pushing an agenda. Get back to enjoying football with openly gay players. You guys are clueless.

Well this thread got derailed

I’m embarrassed for Donovan. Not a good look

In terms of the World Cup. I get that some don’t like soccer but this tournament is special (even without US participation)

To all the fathers, you can’t beat Sunday of the US open and a chance to watch Germany and then Brazil play in the worlds greatest tournament. Great day ahead!

guess who has MLS coverage in this country.

Pretty sure Fox airs more MLS games than ESPN.

Once again, the racism of white progressives is evident.

White progressive believes he is more righteous and that all minorities should listen to him.

Can we agree that the largest soccer audience in this country is probably the millions of illegals, mostly Mexican, that are in this country?

Mark me down for a lack of knowledge too. I also know nothing about high fashion or cooking shows.

People have a lack of knowledge about things they do not care about. The fact that about 90% of the country does not know why that tie is a big deal says a lot.

I believe it is unfortunate for me probably, because if that many people around the world are so passionate about soccer I must be missing something, but I am not going to get it now.

like watching soccer but it's like they are trying to drive away American fans. Just look at the LGBT jersey the USMNT has worn in their last two games

I mean it’s “pride month”. I don’t care for them, but we’ll get over it. I also think it’d be pretty fun to wear those when we play some majority Muslim countries just to piss them off.

You can rag on United States soccer for a lot of reasons, but USA-Mexico is one of the biggest rivalries in national team soccer. It's something both sides of the border does right. Donovan doing things like this undermines that special part of our soccer culture.

If you can't figure out why a team like Iceland getting a draw against one of the best teams in the world (who also has one of the best players ever) is a big deal, then that says quite about about 90% of the country.

To get this back on top, if you want to know more about Landon Donovan, here is a great write up from Grantland back in 2013 that tries to go into the psyche of Landon Donovan. Guy is just different from other superstars, and maybe that's why I've always liked the guy.
