Well, it does. When something happens as far as players being traded or signing, people will care. Most people are bored to fricking death with the endless speculation.
And yes, when a team full of people with a day job gets a point on one of the best teams in the world because one of the greatest players in the history of the sport fricks up so incredibly, it’s a big deal. A much bigger deal than just a tie.

We get it. You don’t like soccer.
Most of the country doesn't. Keep jerking off to the dream.
Don't you guys have your own board?

the dudes on fox were literally freaking out over a tie today.

quote:no. it doesnt. more people in this country care about the lebron saga than they do about the world cup. that isnt an indictment about soccer. you dont need to take it that way. but you should accept it as the truth. soccer is behind the NBA offseason in this country. it is what it is
Well, it does

Christ on a cracker, we actually agree on something.

everything to do with how these topics have been covered in the media the past two days
you cant think of any reasons ESPN might not be doing a lot of world cup coverage?

I was shocked to see it even mentioned on the Sportscenter between the two CWS games earlier today.

I still don't understand the logic of allowing soccer threads on the msb when there's a whole goddamn board for discussion of pride month.

ESPN is very invested in the NBA over these next few months were literally no NBA games are available for them to show and use programming time for
Posted on 6/16/18 at 11:32 pm to WestCoastAg
Or the fact that they dont own the rights to the World Cup and they are promoting their competition by airing any coverage

I will lol when Lebron signs with the Lakers and ESPN cuts away from a heated Uruguay/Brazil game currently tied at 0 to get the scoop from Woj on what happened
Posted on 6/16/18 at 11:35 pm to Greace
what are you talking about? ESPN literally advertises NBA, NCCAF, and MLB games that are shown on fox and cbs and tnt. hell, espn SHOULD be interested in promoting this tournament. guess who has MLS coverage in this country. guess who would benefit from an increased interest in soccer from people in this country.
Posted on 6/16/18 at 11:35 pm to David Ricky
ESPN isn't showing the World Cup so that's probably not going to happen.

even your hypotheticals are retarded

ESPN spent a decent amount of time today discussing the US open. funny how ESPN is willing to talk about a certain sporting event that fox is covering even though they dont have regular programming of that sport while they shy away from covering another sport that fox has coverage of when they do have regular programming for that sport

ESPN has been lost when it comes to what the public wants to watch for a long time
theres a reason they are hemorrhaging subscribers monthly\
just look up ratings for Get Up! and the whole SC6 fiasco

and here we go. jumping around from talking point to talking point. first it was "ESPN has no stake in the world cup so of course they dont want to talk about it". that gets shot down. now its "ESPN doesnt know what people want". seems about right
Posted on 6/16/18 at 11:45 pm to WestCoastAg
Judging by the ratings so far, it was a smart move by the worldwide leader to avoid paying through the nose for the rights to this tournament imho
Posted on 6/16/18 at 11:47 pm to David Ricky
if you put woj on to talk about the potential kawhi trade, the lebron decision, and NBA draft news at the same time as any random world cup game, it would win its time slot. i am absolutely convinced of this beyond any reasonable doubt

dude, ESPN has always done HUGE sets for the World Cup and plastered it all over their network during it. the first world cup they dont have the rights to and the coverage of it is noticeably a lot smaller according to the people in this thread that watch espn.
do you think they just decided to shift away from world cup coverage when they lost the rights to broadcast it and the 2 things arent connected at all?
