My overreaction group predictions:

Wales 7 points
England 5 points
Iran 2 points
US 1 point (tie with Iran)

The US has looked bad but it’s also important to look at how everyone else is doing.

I suspect people are thinking hyper-realistically about the US but thinking of the good days for other teams.

Wales has had a bad run of results (against strong opponents).

Overall I think too much importance is being placed in these two games. However, this has been an abysmal week, no matter how you look at it.

However, there will be different line-ups and no one is going to play to avoid injury in November

That’s a lot of good point there.

Against who though?
Their competition was much, much better than Japan and SA.

If we look like sh#t in Qatar, maybe Gregg will be gone. That is the most optimistic I can be after watching the last two games.

Sure, doesn't negate the fact that they looked like shite. Also, transitive property in sports is a fools errand.

England went 5 matches in a row without scoring a goal from the run of play before yesterday.

Really haven’t paid attention that close to USMNT since we missed on Russia.

In the past we had shite MLS players and decent coaching. Now we have decent players playing in Europe and shite MLS coaching.

That about cover it?

The Klinsman drama and guys taking big MLS paydays to play in a lesser league and I was fed up.

I will always have Portugal in 2002 and the Donovan goal against Algeria.

The US Soccer establishment is the problem.

This is 100% the root of the problems. The US federation is a mess and until they clean house and start over we'll always be very limited.

Tell me how to fix it? I’m sure you are a lot more capable than the people who are running it.

And there's plenty more news articles with similar themes. It's no secret the federation is filled with nepotism and other major issues

Welcome to sports.

This is no different than most other international federations. Does it suck? yeah, but it's not the reason we can't field a competent soccer team right now.

Best hope has to be if they fall flat in Qatar it forces a major change. Hosting 2026 will be too big of a risk to stick with what they have done in the past.

Established international coach. No MLS flunky.

What they consider success this year and they stick with the same for 2026. Berhalter or someone somebody else at USF cousin.

We lost to Iran in 1998 WC.

It can happen again

I always thought Roberto Martinez would be an option. He did USA TV for 2014 WC coverage.

Belgium golden generation is aging out and would be surprised if he goes 3 cycles with them.

Well if we're doing historical precedence, then we have nothing to worry about when we face England, considering we've never lost to them in the World Cup.
