I do realize how Guzan excels at positioning as opposed to Howard.
Provided the ball is below eye level.
He (Guzan) is still (barely) a step above "disaster" on crosses. He's still improving, and he's certainly better than he was, but Howard is far better in the air than either Rimando or Guzan.

Howard broke his got damn back not too long ago.

Tim Howard says "frick you"

OP, I am concerned with Howard.
He makes every save a GK should make, and hardly anything more. He has spectacular moments but they seem to be rare these days. And don't even get me started on his demeanor. He looks furious at all times.
For example, yesterday, instead of talking to his guys and fixing their positioning because they had been together only THREE DAYS, he simply yells at them about mistakes. His communication seems off, and anyone who watched the EPL last year knows Guzan is a better solution.
Here come the sheep.

They're not fricking 6. If they frick up and let in a goal you're gonna hear it from your keeper and deservedly so.

Of course, but I mean, when you can scream at guys instead of actually alleviating the problem you have to right?
I'm just saying, go watch the 10 best GKs in the world and look at how they act after a defensive error by the back line.
Tim Howard is the one who looks 6.

You'll feel better about Howard once we start shutting out Concacaf trash again. Something Rimando had trouble doing.

This may be the stupidest thing ever typed on the soccer board.

I'm not saying Howard's one of the best keepers in the world, but he is a pretty strong keeper, and certainly one of the best in the EPL. Everybody likes to talk about Donovan, but USMNT wouldn't be anywhere without Howard.

Think about the who's who of scrubs he's had in front of him over the years. You'd be yelling too. Many keepers yell I've seen Buffon yell a few times.

Timmy is the best pure shot stopper the US has had at GK. Guzan IMO is better at keeping his defense in position. Rimando is a good MLS goalie and should not ever be mentioned in the same sentence as Timmy. US is lucky to have to excellent GKs.

I don't mention Tim Howard in the same sentence as Nick Rimando.
But, I also live in the present, and at the present Tim Howard isn't rated as highly as Guzan to me. 5 years ago? Sure. But you guys are basing things off of history.
Put it this way: if both guys were completely new(meaning Howard didn't have incumbency) and the same age, I believe the manager would pick Guzan, as he is CURRENTLY the better player.

One year ago today Timmy stood on his head at Azteca and essentially won the match.
Until he f's up in a major game, this thread is nothing short of retarded.

Maybe Guzan should get that chance soon. He done pretty well at Azteca.

Pretty much everyone else on this team has been held accountable for their club and country performance. Howard should be no different.

Howard should lose his spot because he didn't save there goals that were not his fault? please...
ETA I've seen Howard look like shite for Everton last year, but he did nothing wrong last night. Near post corner, three guys open on a cross and a one v one.
