The only think you could possibly criticize Howard for last night was on the third goal not playing sweeper on that ball that landed 2 yards outside the box. Even still that's harsh.

I felt he should have stopped their second goal. Looked like he didn't put that much effort into stopping it.

Tim is not the problem. The problem, as it has been for a while now, is the back line. As much as I respect Beasley, good god he's horrible. The dude must have a frickin 20 inch vertical, which is not good considering he's already a shrimp. Sure he looked OKAY in the Gold Cup, but he is gonna get TORCHED in the WC. The first goal was on him, IMO. The 2nd goal was a pure collapse by our entire line. That and Demarcus didn't even make an attempt to head the ball clear. I thought Howard played well, although I did think he should have charged the ball as soon as it was kicked and Besler was beat. Besler is technically sound, but an average athlete. And Omar is just a big clunker. He gets by on his size and strength in MLS, but CR's speed was giving him absolute fits last night. We better be able to score goals in WC14, bc with the same dline we had last night, we're gonna be giving up quite a few goals that Timmy won't be able to stop

The problem is, USA has had Strong Keepers.

And when Freidel and Keller retired, Howard took the reigns, problem is, he's an above average GK. Nothing more, nothing less. The position took a downgrade once those guys left.

Those other guys could take over a game, and win a game for USA, Howard always has at least 1 gaffe a game, and in Soccer, it only takes the 1 gaffe to lose.

He also gets caught out of position often, and he's athletic to get back or make the stop many of those times. Problem is, you cannot afford that on the World stage.

Yes. Guzan is better. Wouldn't surprise me if Joel Robles benched Howard at Everton this season.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what "experience on the international level" means? How is that more important than having experience at the club level? Guzan has played incredible games against GREAT teams and players from the past few seasons (as has Howard) but he has outshined Howard for a while now.

Sureeeeee experience is good to have and prepares you a bit differently for games but goodness it's an overrated thing. Guzan ain't no slouch. I'm not saying full on start the guy but he deserves a shot. He needs to start the last 2 games of qualifying AND the next few friendlies.

Howard has done this for us on many occasions. Don't disregard/forget this just because he hasn't played quite as well recently. (and I'm all for Guzan starting the next game.)
