To say Manchester is a desired location like Nyc is a bit of a stretch

pool is like the cowboys

dominance a few decades ago. spurts of short brilliance since. have money and an OK destination. fans still act like they're still preeminent

organization is trying to rebuild with young players and not huge FA signings

arsenal is the one i am having trouble accurately comparing. may have to go to the NBA

its 35 miles from Manchester and most players from both teams don't even live in either city but in Cheshire.

or funds as manu, which is why manu is a better example

wut Liverpool and United have basically spent the same amount on players the last few years. Both teams do generate their funds organically.

Comparing EPL clubs (and most soccer clubs in general) to American sports is an exercise in futility.

it's not Manchester. it's ManU

they can still get super elite signings b/c of their prestige and place in the world

a guy like Reus would go to ManU before Chelsea or Man City (assuming equal money, which does skew things)

i don't think Pool would be in the discussion

Both Liverpool and Manchester are pretty shite. They're better than Swansea, but so is Hull.

You guys are just forgetting how good Pool was in the 70's and 80's

They have the most trophies of any english team ala the Yankees with the most WS. Had a mega rich owner during their dominate spell getting who every they wanted.

But once again it doesn't work for either club. United and Liverpool both have gone 20+ years with out winning the league. Whats the longest the Yankees have gone with out a WS?

the top 2 are Barca/Real then a gap, then ManU, then a gap

biggest difference is liverpool made a huge net profit on suarez and spent that money (not optimally)

manu did sell di maria for $$ but they bought him for $$

no that's kind of the point. 30-40 years ago

it's just like when ManU fans talk shite to Pool fans. that's EXACTLY what they bring up. we're just using ManU fandom's own arguments

You have a point there if you're talking about the George Steinbrenner Yanks.

I think he's referring to a big money club, but that's accurate for almost all of the big clubs.

I agree the yankees comparison isn't great, but its one you hear all the time... not that I agree with it..

I'm sure its because of Man U's dominance in the Fergie era... Which is what most of this generation know and/or remember..

If this was 1989, I'm sure it would be said about LFC... I love our history and it was a big part of the draw for me, as I'm sure it was/is for others... If others don't like that and it turns them off, I couldn't care less..

I'd much rather be talking about all the new bandwagon fans we now have, because Klopp has us winning titles... Trust me, it would be a welcome conversation...

I don't like the Mets comp because they stopped spending after Madoff. The Dodgers way more than anyone else are the best comparison for unlimited budget teams.

It is laughable when people try and use Pool, not ManU for this exercise. We are talking in the modern era so present day relevance and global branding is a huge fricking factor.
