Wait...what? If it came to a bidding war of course Chelsea could think they would win. I seriously doubt Man U would pay that much over 30 mil for an 18 year old LB. You can keep trotting out FFP but Chelsea will move anyone if they feel that the price tag for Shaw is justified.

Yea we are pushing the limit already for him, but we paid 29 for Rio, if we can get 10+ year of quality then its worth it. Im more excited about the prospect of getting Hummels.

I know SCH will disagree with me because I guess getting English guys, even though United didn't develop them, is so important...but Rodriguez is an incredible back who is exactly what United need right now compared to Shaw. Cheaper, too.

I have no problem with getting non english players

I'd be surprised if you got Hummels and paying 30 mil for Rio, who was a much more accomplished player than Shaw, is not the same thing as paying for a 18 year old LB with less than 100 appearances to his name. Not only that, none of this has to do with Chelsea thinking they could win a bidding war with you, which they could absolutely do, especially with the clear-out they have planned this summer, as well as the fact that Chelsea have 30mil more than you do this summer because of the CL money. The new PL TV deal mitigates the loss of the CL somewhat, but let's not pretend that other clubs can't compete financially with Man U. Chelsea could top 400 mil euros in revenue this year, which gives them a shite ton of leeway in the market, as with that liquidity, they can finance numerous cash deals that would allow them to bring in new players.

ETA: Which isn't to say that Man U doesn't have a vast amount of liquidity this summer, or every summer, but with the new PL TV deal the landscape has changed. For example, Arsenal has cash reserves of 120 mil pounds sterling, and are increasing revenue to 368 mil euros, which means they are adding between 70-80 mil pound sterling in cash reserves.

I wasn't talking about just bidding for shaw but in the overall scope. Chelsea def has an advantage in the market with FFP with the impending purge.

It makes no sense either way. The landscape for PL clubs has changed, and I expect skyrocketing transfer fees as well as wages.

This summer is going to be a game changer. It is crazy being a World Cup year.

Mascherano, potential move back to Liverpool for 9 million pounds. He's 30 next month so I dunno about that to sure up the back line long term. Short term would be a good stop gap.

Uri Rosell, apparently, is moving from SKC to sporting CP this summer. LINK

If true, he's earned it. Completed more passes by himself than 10 man Montreal did all game last weekend (160/166) and has been great in his time here.

A lot of rumors of Bayern being interested in Benatia going around now. Hopefully they're true

Bayern's interest seems absolutely true. However, Benatia has been pretty straightforward about wanting CL with Roma.

His agent has been meeting with Sabatini (DS) and Palotta (owner) over a salary increase this week.

I still think the only way he leaves would be over salary demands that Roma wouldn't want to meet coupled with a huge offer. I think he's using the interest (not just from Bayern) to work out a better deal, which he deserves.

Strootman to Van Gaal / ManU if they were to make a ridiculous offer may be a bit more likely if any Roma starter were to be sold but it's not that likely.

Pjanic was the one everyone thought would be more likely to go to PSG et al (since unlike Strootman and Benatia he never really denied interest in other clubs) but he just re-signed this week.

I would imagine if this were true (and I wouldn't be opposed, but doubt), he would be brought in to play DM, a need, and not as a CB...

This was my thought as well. Especially since there are rumors that Lucas Leiva wants to leave, right?

I think Lucas wants to play more and if we get a good price, he may very well be gone...
