The stats above say that Florida had 222 yards against Bama.

Does anyone have the "normalized" stats that take into account the quality of the opposition. For example, what percentage of each opponent's average total yards per game are they averaging against Bama and LSU.
Basically, if Florida averages 353.7 yards per game....what percentage of this did they get against Bama (222/353.7) and against LSU (213/353.7). In essence this percentage for each of their 8 opponents and then the percentage of all 8 averaged to get 1 final "average" percentage.
Also, looking at each team's stats against SEC opponents only is also a form of "normalization" as the opponents within the SEC will overlap or at least be more comparable.

I for one wish this game played tomorrow getting tried of all the penis envy from both sides. It is getting old really fast. Everyone can all post stats that help their team out.

If only stats dictated the final score of the game.

The same can be said for LSU. That's what makes this game so intriguing. These two teams clearly appear to be a cut above the rest in college football, and their styles, stats, and gameplan are very similar.

My mistake, corrected now. Actually Penn St. put up the most yards against Alabama at 251

You have an average starting field position?
Or average field position differential?
WV got so many yards from starting at their 4 yd line.

Sorry for the long post, but just my analysis of the stats:
Bama has been statistically superior by a narrow margin to LSU in most categories. They have been as impressive if not more impressive to watch compared to LSU from week to week. Only reason LSU jumped Bama is a more difficult schedule to this point (debatable). LSU's quality wins have mostly come on the road/neutral site (Oregon & WV). But Bama has dominated teams at home (Arkansas particularly).
Bama is very good, and it will be fun to watch these two titans get after it in now less than 7 days. Both have a claim at being one of the most physically talented teams of all time. If either team had an Andrew Luck or RG3 they might be considered G.O.A.T. along with Nebraska 95 or Miami 01.
The biggest stat disparities above are LSU's net punting, turnovers (4 more through 8 games) and passing efficiency. And Bama's total offense passing and rushing and punt returns (LSU has not returned punts well this year). Otherwise the stats are pretty close considering differing schedules and coaching styles.
I believe that the total offense stats are misleading because of LSU's style of taking what they need on offense (not running it up in the 4th) and maintaining ball control as well as usually good field position thanks to defense. To shed some reason on the misconception of the total offense stat: look at efficiency and wonder why the passing yardage isn't more impressive for LSU.
Bama's running game is better with TR, and we know TR will get his touches and yards, but LSU will also run the ball efficiently with the stable of RB talent behind Lee/Jefferson. The biggest difference is TR's big play capability.
LSU's net punting should neutralize the return game of Bama (hopefully holds true).
So I believe this game will come down to Bama/LSU turnovers, McCarron picking up 3rd down and 6+, and LSU slowing down or stopping Richardson's big play ability. Also most believe both defenses will play well against the pass, but which defense will create more pressure on the QB?
Can't wait to watch this game!!!

0 fricks given thread...
Let the teams play on the 5th to decide and quit bombarding the place with stats.
Both schools have arguably one of the best teams each has ever had...can't we just sit back and enjoy watching what is mostlikely going to be an absolute war?
With that being said,

Comparing the two common opponents that we've played, Bama played all of UF's starters & 2d string for at least half of their game at The Swamp. LSU got the UF 3d string QB and only one of Demps/Rainey the entire game, and gave up 9 total yards less while gaining ~90 total yards more, at Tiger Stadium correct?
I didn't see any of the LSU v. UT game, can someone similarly compare those two games other than the above stats and Bama was tied 6-6 at half? I believe that both teams played UT w/ UT's 2d string QB and LSU giving up ~80 total yards more and gaining ~40 total yards less.
Nov. 5th can't get here quick enough...

Nice try TD, it should be "teams beaten who have a chance to win their BCS conference this year:" as Oregon has to get past Stanford and ASU, WVU has to get past several teams.
Bama beat Penn State who has a chance to win the Big 10. And Arkansas could still win the SEC
LSU 2, Bama 2.

I did this for LSU and Bama's offenses yesterday. LSU starts at the 37 and Bama the 35. When I get a moment today I'll look defensive starting position

This thread is so pointless. Why compare each team offense to offense and defense to defense? Are we playing a different type of football Saturday? All the stats do is say that each team is really good.

LSU opponent avg starting field position is the 24 yard line. In 100 drives LSU has not let any opponents drive start in their territory. LSU's worst defensive game saw WVU's average LoS at the 15.
Bama opponent avg starting field position is the 28 yard line. In 102 drives have let 3 opponents drives start in bama territory. Bama's worst defensive game saw PSU's average LoS at the 29.
Based on average starting position, LSU's defense is giving up 26% possible total yards (2011 given up vs a possible 7600 - if a team scored on every drive). While Bama's offense is getting 56% possible total yards (3661 total vs 6565 possible)
Bama's defense is giving up 20% possible total yards (1444 given up vs a possible 7344). With LSU's offense getting 49% of total possible yards (2977 total vs 6111 possible)
