I don't know what Putin wants, but I wouldn't want all of Ukraine. If you take it, you have to occupy it and hold it. Very expensive and probably a net negative for Russia. Same applies to western Europe. Even if he could successfully invade EU countries, he'd lose in the long run with or without US getting involved. He should be looking for a deal, but may not give up Crimea without a long and painful war.
