Not having a place to live is a pretty big failure in life

Most humans haven’t owned their homes for the last 10,000 years.

I’m saying that the ‘need’ for new houses (or however many other things) is largely a marketing construct
Oh, so you don't understand entropy? That things break down over time, leak, collapse, etc and need to be replaced? We should just continue to patch the currently existing houses for the next 600 years?

Sounds like somebody is still in their mommy's basement.......

The average size of a new single-family home built in the U.S. that year was 817 square feet, 2 BR, 1 BA, driveway only, no carport or garage, poorly insulated, wooden single-paned windows, no security system, no Ethernet cabling, no dishwasher, no AC, Formica countertops instead of stone or Corian countertops, no sprinkler systems or mandated landscaping by an HOA.
Add in that $5150 in 1946 is $85,000 today.

Did I say anything about not repairing existing homes?

I'm picturing a caveman being pissed off at the cavemen who live in caves.
Grunt grunt... grunt grunt grunt.. grunt.. grunt grunt.. grunt. (Translation: it's just not feasible to expect caves. One should be happy living in the open and embrace the elements. )

Well they sure are clearing land in Covington for DR Horton and DLSD (whatever it is). It’s nuts and stupid. And no infrastructure to go with it.

Here’s another. Pick a new name this time for variety.

Living life without having a mortgage or rent and actually owning my home outright??? fricking glorious.
you will never know that feeling

Property ownership has been a human ideal for 10,000 years. That it has been enabled by a growing middle class in western societies doesn’t change the ideal.

Your OP doesn't make much sense. Millions of people rent, live in apartments, etc. I own a house, not a big one, and it's not a top 20 thing I'm most proud of in my life. I don't even know the last time I've had a conversation where someone was bragging on their house or owning one. I do wish we did a better job with development, but city crime forces people out and you have to keep building to keep up. I don't like urban sprawl anymore than I assume you do, it's the nature of the beast.

Did I? No, I did not. I asked if you thought it would be better to just continually repair the existing houses for the next 600 years as opposed to replacing them with new houses. What is your answer to that question?

That wasn’t the message I responded to when you called me retarded. Go back and read what I actually responded to.

US should not be building home, but surely individual citizens should still build their dream home!
