Muslim Brotherhood action. Trump ordered the government to pursue designation of certain Muslim Brotherhood chapters as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and/or Specially Designated Global Terrorists.

More aggressive denaturalization cases. DOJ has significantly increased cases seeking to revoke citizenship obtained through fraud or concealment of disqualifying conduct. One May 2026 group included allegations involving concealed terrorist support, war crimes and espionage. This cannot legally be used simply because someone is Muslim.

In June 2025, DOJ instructed its Civil Division to prioritize denaturalization cases. One of the highest priorities is naturalized citizens who pose national-security threats, including people connected to terrorism or espionage. The policy also prioritizes cases involving fraud, undisclosed criminal conduct and other serious wrongdoing.

Where someone's current activities can matter is if they uncover something about how citizenship was obtained. For example, investigators could discover that someone concealed membership in a terrorist organization, material support for terrorism, relevant criminal activity, a false identity, or another material fact during the immigration/naturalization process. USCIS specifically identifies concealed terrorist activity and concealed group memberships as potential grounds affecting whether citizenship was lawfully obtained.

So the process Trump is expanding essentially looks like:

identify potentially serious cases: investigate the person's immigration/naturalization history ? find fraud, concealment or illegal procurement ? DOJ files a denaturalization case ? if citizenship is revoked, the person becomes an alien again ? removal/deportation may then become possible.

The White House itself now describes this as an "unprecedented denaturalization effort targeting those who fraudulently obtained U.S. citizenship."

So if anyone is wondering whether Trump has found a legal mechanism for reviewing naturalized citizens who appear hostile to the U.S., yes, denaturalization investigations are the mechanism.
