Are jury trials just a show? I’m going to jury duty in 2 weeks

You should not be on a jury.

Being in charge of the executive branch, the branch ultimately responsible for enforcement of the law, the President has some lee-way with how that law is enforced. That is the "why".

Ask Obama, who had 1700+ pardons/commutations, the most of any president in US history. Some were life sentences. One was that trans Army chick/dude.

ETA: see tiguar post above for the reasoned and rational explanation.

I am not certain that the power of commutation is a "good thing" (too susceptible to political favoritism), but it IS entirely Constitutional.

Because the founding fathers foresaw political prosecutions, corruption, and abuse of power, of which this clearly is.

The President was given the power to pardon/commute. Same as the Governors of the states. There is very sound logic and reasoning behind this.

Sometimes abused but, generally appears to have well handled. I do not think anyone is upset about a number of Trump pardons regarding Jack Johnson; Alice Johnson, etc

Is that The Miz or a young Mark Hamill? Must be the The Miz, no way Hamill would hold up the Constitution

According to the artist it is "the Forgotten Man", looks like a buddy I work with, actually.

dcbl said it.

With a pardon, you serve no more time AND the conviction is no longer on your record. A commutation only ends time served; you still have the conviction on your record.

It's part of the Executive's duty to see that the laws are faithfully enforced and is more on the side of mercy than justice.

Looks more like a cross between The Miz and a clean-shaven Daniel Bryan.
