There's absolutely no excuse to frick around with Marines afoot on Kharg Island. NONE. It could be leveled with ballistic missiles and Moabs if that's the intent. Otherwise using Situation Room meetings just to frick with IRGC psychies hasn't borne much fruit in the past either.

Agreed. The Marines need to be on the islands inside the Strait itself. Larak and Greater Tunb for instance. Taking Kharg is pointless and does nothing to open the shipping lanes.

Seeing as how we’re literally talking about sovereign islands acknowledged to be the territory of Iran (assuming I’m correct about that), how do we suspect Iran would react to what amounts to a ground invasion of their territory, or country?

They’ll launch every missile and drone at the troops on the islands inside response. This will deplete what’s left of their stores and expose many of their launch sites which we will destroy in return ensuring freedom of navigation through the strait.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with Kharg. There are much more strategically important pieces of terrain IMO.

But I understand the reasoning. It was to show that negotiations were not possible. He had to demonstrate that.
