In an editorial published Sunday night, the paper said that Trump is being portrayed as though he has something to hide, even though it was an act of transparency to waive executive privilege in order for McGahn to speak with Mueller.

"This isn’t what you’d expect if Mr. Trump is leading a coverup," the Journal said. "Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton fought extensive legal battles with prosecutors over executive privilege. Mr. Clinton invoked privilege to block aides Bruce Lindsey and Sidney Blumenthal from testifying to Ken Starr’s grand jury. Yet when Mr. Trump doesn’t invoke privilege for his White House counsel, he gets no credit."

"Could it be that Mr. Trump let Mr. McGahn cooperate with Mr. Mueller because he felt he had nothing to cover up?" the Journal said. "This is precisely what Mr. Trump tweeted Saturday: 'I allowed him and all others to testify — I didn’t have to. I have nothing to hide.' Because Mr. Trump makes so many false statements, this claim is also assumed to be false — though legal logic and the public evidence suggest that in this case it may be true."

I love how this is always stated with little to no evidence to back it up.

The purpose of the press is to destroy Republicans, conservatives and normal human beings in general. Does anyone actually believe the press would give Trump credit for anything?

Could it be McGahn was scared of getting thrown under the bus like Cohen?

Don McGahn gave extensive inside information because he was worried he was being setup to take the fall.

Could it be that this was a year ago so if it mattered we would have heard about it then?

Um what?

What the OP is saying is that Trump could have claimed Executive Privilege and prevented MCGahn from testifying the privilege belongs to the President not the attorney.

I think Trump probably wasn't fully forthcoming with Ty Cobb and ended up getting some bad advice from Cobb with regard to waiving executive privilege. Chris Christie has been letting the old legal team have it since since this new McGahn story broke.

This is the Wall Street Journal, not the Huffington Post.

Where do you get your news that makes you think Trump hasn't made false statements?

The media’s “idea” of a false statement is like when Trump says something like, “we have the best economy....”. They call it a lie, and say “technically it was better back 1964 Q3” or something.

What most folks understand to be a generalization, the MSM interprets as a lie.

Mcgahn Is NOT trumps lawyer. He is the WH lawyer....there to make sure the constitution is followed. I dont believe trump allowed him to speak. That is probably more of his daily BS for his minions. He will say anything to make himself look better knowing many will believe him because he is our emperor.

No question that goes on a lot, but there have been times when Trump bends specific facts to fit his narrative.

That editorial statement makes a leap...
Many tweets Trump fires out are only in opposition to narratives they provide...and typically evolve from what they claim as false and bloviation to proven truths.

"Makes so many false statements" is also not quantified...I'd assume that if one were to have a panel of 1 anti- POTUS and 1 pro-POTUS and one intermediate review every statement he ever made, it would come close to less than 1% false, 2-3% ambiguous and 97% true or just opinion.

I’ll grant you that and suggest that part comes with politics. But the MSM doesn’t bother call out the left when they do it.
