Would the people have a chance against the government...

of the US in an all out revolution?
Just got into a major discussion with my liberal BIL. He is emphatic that even with all the guns an knowledge of our people that if it came to blows the revolution would be wiped out quickly.
I’m of the opposite thinking that a revolution with cause would have a very good chance of succeeding because of the 2nd amendment and the fact that our military is voluntary. IMHO, a good portion of the military would side with the people. I stated many reasons why and am just curious what the POLI board believes.
Just saying beforehand that I don’t believe it will come to blows because I inherently believe that we are the greatest country ever.

Our military being voluntary is the key. We would crush the government with haste. Their best hope would be that democrats in the military would side with them and even in that case it wouldnt matter. In the civil war we had general leave and fight with the confederacy and it was a pretty even split with the military. No way the government could convince our military to turn on us.

Agreed that the military won't turn against the people. Without manpower to operate the huge technological advantage we would have the upper hand. However, if they could man enough of the aircraft, drones, armor, and such then we would have a tough time. The key of the people would be to organize. Saw a stat from USFWS that 15.7 million people over 6 went hunting. That's a serious army if you can organize and supply.

Yeah...like any Revolution, it's always what General or Commander does the military side with? 
Despite the Intelligence Industry turning out to be pretty liberal and corrupt lately...
Military is still pretty Conservative...
But still would depend on who is paying whom.
If a coup were to happen, it would be to prevent the Blue State immigration coup in 10 years if Trump is unsuccessful in stopping the Tidal wave.
This is the #1 reason libs and Dems are pissed off...they had a nice forcast of owning this country forever if they just had at least 10-15 more years in the White House to open the floodgates.

Next time you drive by the local PD - look at how big the building and property are, especially the parking lot. Imagine the whole parking lot being filled with police cars. That's not a big force. A PD could never take over a city. Never. And it could be quickly overrun.
Medium sized cities:
Local FBI office? Handful of people.
Local DHS / ATF folks? Handful of people.
Local Forest Service, BLM, etc? A couple handfuls of people.
If the military stays out of it, the gov has no chance against except for the innermost part of the fed. Laying seige to DC would not be easy. But if the rest of the gov across the nation is effectively neutralized - then their equipment will be taken and there will be plenty of veterans that know how to operate armored vehicles and so forth. The politicians in bunkers could wait it out for a long time. But their security could not. Their food and water and electricity would be taken by the people and their families would be out there all alone. They would be given choices and the majority of them would put down their weapons and walk away. A new gov would be formed while waiting for the politicians to just run out of food and come out of the bunkers.

If a bunch of goat frickers in Afghanistan can keep the United States busy for 17 years (and the Soviets for 9), I think the American people could handle their government. Besides, I don't think too many of our soldiers want to go out and bump off their grandmother because some government frick tells them to. The military people I've talked to don't want to turn on the American people. Your high ranks may want to, but your company commanders don't.

I take it you don’t know many Federal government agents that work in the south? There’s no distinction from local LEOs as far as their loyalties to what’s right.
