You watching the"Dukes oF Hazzard " movie? Ole Boss Hog was gonna strip mine Hazzard County. Oh and as a bonus there's a racist flag on the roof of that orange car named after General Lee....triple the outrage.

you realize federal income tax started to replace the alcohol tax right? when prohibition was passed.. that was just a terrible idea in general and you can thank bible thumpers for the income tax.

you can thank bible thumpers for the income tax.
quote:
n 1913, almost 20 years later, the ideas of uniform taxation and equal protection of the law for all citizens were overturned when a constitutional amendment permitting a progressive income tax was ratified. Congress first set the top rate at a mere 7 percent—and married couples were only taxed on income over $4,000 (equivalent to $80,000 today). During the tax debate, William Shelton, a Georgian, supported the income tax “because none of us here have $4,000 incomes, and somebody else will have to pay the tax.” As Madison and Field had feared, the seeds of class warfare were sown in the strategy of different rates for different incomes.
It took the politicians less than one generation to hike the tax rates and fulfill Field’s prophecy. Herbert Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt, using the excuses of depression and war, permanently enlarged the income tax. Under Hoover, the top rate was hiked from 24 to 63 percent. Under Roosevelt, the top rate was again raised—first to 79 percent and later to 90 percent. In 1941, in fact, Roosevelt proposed a 99.5 percent marginal rate on all incomes over $100,000. “Why not?” he said when an adviser questioned him.
After that proposal failed, Roosevelt issued an executive order to tax all income over $25,000 at the astonishing rate of 100 percent. Congress later repealed the order, but still allowed top incomes to be taxed at a marginal rate of 90 percent.
TL/DR: income tax was barely a thing before FDR, max rate of 7% on all incomes over 80,000.
FDR massively expanded the income tax.

Care to elaborate more on this?
The % of federal revenue gained from income tax reached a peak when prohibition started, and declined almost consistently throughout the prohibition period. It wasn't until WWII that % of federal revenue from income tax went seriously out of control.

Eh, the great conservationist Teddy Roosevelt slaughtered thousands of animals simply for sport, so let's not act like everyone but Trump is an angel.

John D Rockefeller bought up all the land that composes Jacksons Hole National Monument and donated it the Federal government. FDR obliged him and its now a part of Grand Teton National Park. If one of the richest oil men in the history of our country can see its value, so should you.

John is responsible for a hell of a lot of pollution as well, so let's not make him out to be an angel either.
He had super rich old man guilt, thus the philanthropy.

So does that mean you now support all the causes that the Koch brothers donate to?

What's Trump proposing to do with the Grand Tetons? Again, what are you even talking about here?

It doesn't matter. He wants to kill everyone and he's racist. That's all you need to know.

He's gonna chop off the highest 1,000 feet to make a nice elevated tee for the first hole.

And if you think slippery slope doesn't exist then consider that when the income tax was passed we were told 'it will never be higher than 2%.'
That, and payroll withholding taxes were supposed to end when the war ended.

Do you not see the difference between this and having the federal government take the land by fiat?

so if it provides jobs for unemployed citizens of the country it's a bad thing, citizens who may be chronically on the public dole, but if it is restricted from use by and for anyone other than elitists and elitist wannabees, that is a better solution?
reminds me of Republican senators joining with Democrats to vote to restrict drilling for oil in ANWAR, one of the most remote places in the U S.
