I'm convinced it was purely a political play to get points up ahead of the election. At least he did it though I gotta give him credit.

Two women that I work with, both screaming feminists have both posted on their social media sites that they will “never vote for “JBE again. Gonna be fun to watch them agonize over the compromise they are about to have to make. Encouraged by the poll showing Abraham in dead tie and showing 50% name recognition for the first time. The more the doc gets out there the better his numbers get.

This almost ensures his re-election.
He will still get all the Dems that blindly vote “D” and now will get many GOPers’ votes as well.

I agree.

His policy platform was absolutely impressive as it gets but you still have to get elected first to implement it.

He ran a shitty campaign and underestimated JBE and just how far those two RINOs would go against him.

It's a shame as Vitter would've been a very fine Governor.

I wanted to vote for the guy but his campaign completely turned me off from him.

Vitter may have ran a shitty campaign but I knew what he was running against and that was a candidate in JBE that's supported by all the usual suspects that has made and kept Louisiana a very shitty state to find a job, make a living in and raise a family while completely institutionalizing all of the corruption and grift.

I voted for Vitter and I have absolutely no regrets about it, especially so considering the last few years where JBE has proven himself the political twin of Edwin Edwards.

Ralph Abraham will hurt him in 2020. He is trying to save face with this, but I will be truly amazed if he gets re-elected

It's a smart move by Edwards, no doubt.

National Democratic party stuff- he's an ugly, weasel-looking bald white guy without charisma from a Southern state; he has no chance to elevate beyond the state level. Simple fact.

But in-state, he's now posturing as a pro-life candidate (appeals to the masses), and he's moving away from the National party line (also appeals to the masses).
As has been noted above, no hardcore Dem will vote R, and he's the only D on the ballot. So instead of playing to his guaranteed votes, he's trying to steal a portion of the middle.

Too bad he wasn't more legit, and more charismatic: this is the type of situation that could push a Moderate to make a big move nationally. I could see the Dem party taken by a sane Southern Dem, one that doesn't go out of his way to antagonize traditional working and middle class values. Edwards isn't the man to do it, but if only there WAS someone, we could push the loons out of power (or at least reign them in).

I actually feel like it helps him. I feel like the majority of Louisiana folks are pro life, even the democratic ones. This move for him will win over some conservatives and will likely be the reason he gets re-elected.

He's trying to appeal to the voters in north Louisiana because he sure didnt score any political points with his base making this move. But, the sad reality is that no announced candidate, as of yet, R or D, could beat him. And he is so vulnerable.

So, biggest loser in this move would be Trey Ourso and the other "boys" who love to piss away (while putting large chunks of it in own their pockets) national money from DGA or DNC. Because the Democratic party in Louisiana will never see that funding.
