Voting tomorrow in the runoff between an R and a D. Interest is low statewide. Higher interest in the New Orleans Mayor race could propel the D to victory just like it propelled him to the runoff.

"Conservative" Louisiana has a Proggy Governor.

Conservative LA has had what, 4 R Govs and maybe 3 R Senators since Reconstruction?

I love the myth a state that is blue for the vast majority of it's existence is a conservative state. LA is not that.

I think JBE was elected because he falsely sold himself as a conservative on some issues. Overall we are a conservative majority state.

What does this particular race/seat/position have to do with conservatism? The responsibilities of the treasurer are about accounting, it shouldn't be a party issue. Which candidate is the most qualified to carry out the responsibilities of the position?

Gay marriage and abortion are important, Louisiana doesn't have any treasure anyway

In most parishes this is the only item on the ballot. Meanwhile in NOLA, the mayor’s election runoff is happening. So, the DEM actually has a chance purely because of turnout.

Vitter’s prostitution scandal and other R candidates siding sith JBE in the runoff is why JBE got elected

"Blue" mayors in all the larger cities, and a "blue" governor: I thought Louisiana was a "blue" state.

Why would a candidate for treasurer be asked about their views on gay marriage and abortion? Their responsibilities have nothing to do with either.

Louisiana is conservative, but is newly Republican.

Many conservatives grew up in old school conservative blue dog democrat families. They actually hope the democrats will return to center right.

JBE claimed to be conservative and cloaked himself in West Point honor code BS. The other supposedly republicans attack Vitter. Vitter had won Senate reelection after the hookers were revealed and did not push back in the mistaken belief that the issue was done.

Louisiana wants to vote for conservative democrats. Fortunately they don't exist anymore, but the occasional politician can successfully lie their way into office. JBE cannot win again.

Because these second tier elections determined future candidates for other statewide and national offices.

From little acorns mighty oak trees grow. Mary pretended to be moderate for years until she stuck us with Obamacare!

Do not let the DNC sprout roots in Louisiana soil!

Sweep up the acorns, and pull the tiny trees up by the roots!

What do you know about the two candidates in this particular race? Which is the most qualified?

‘Conservative’ America has a Congress proposing $1.5 Trillion being added to the debt also.

I mean... does it matter. The treasurer doesn't do anything really important. It is just a launch pad for bigger things.

Schroder is another load mouth looking for a bully pulpit the same as Kennedy. His commercial where he says he will reign in state spending boils my blood. The Treasurer has no authority over the budget, and when Schroder was in ways and means, and could have had some impact... he did nothing.

Only saving grace is that this job carries little importance. It seems either way, we are getting a dud.

No. JBE is actually very conservative. He's pro-life and pro-gun. He's also a West Pointer. He's hardly a progressive. If he were, there's no way he'd have been elected. What I like about the guy is that he's a realist and responsible. Not like that idiot who left Louisiana in a fiscal mess nearly as bad as the one that other idiot, Brownback, left Kansas in.
