Stacey Abrams being governor of Georgia would do nothing to aid the DNC insofar as their desire to maintain their power in congress and around the nation as a whole. Money was better spent supporting Warnock in order to ensure the Dems maintain or strengthen their position in the senate.
Remember - Dems believe in a strong central government in DC and preach that all power and authority emanates from the federal government. Stacy Abrams as a governor would do nothing to strengthen that position for them, but Warnock as a senator does.

Abrams was the sacrificial lamb so the Dems can show plausible deniability that the elections aren’t rigged.They can hold her up as losing as proof that elections aren’t rigged,losing the governors race doesn’t hurt them on the national stage.
