The wife and I are retired drawing our retirement checks. My income hasn't been affected one iota by the economy tanking during this time. Groceries are a little more expensive but when are they aren't. People who were on unemployment before the virus haven't seen a decrease in their payments either. So, why do we need free stimulus money? People who had jobs and lost them, sure, help them out a little if need be, however, not to the point of it's more economical not to work than to work, thanks to the government. I'm seeing help wanted signs at businesses in my little burg that I haven't seen signs at before. It's kinda crazy.

Bc it would take forever to separate everyone...literally forever. The Government actually saves money and time by giving everyone (that qualifies) a check. Also, the stimulus check is to stimulate the economy, it's not based on whether you work or not.

This is about votes, not jobs.
Neither party can afford to be labeled as being against the people by the other party.

“Stimulus” money is meant to stimulate a struggling economy. It’s meant to be spent to generate economic activity

Unemployment benefits are geared more towards income replacement/assistance

In theory the stimulus money isn't supposed to replace your money for living expenses. It is supposed to be something extra that you will splurge with to spur economic growth.

That is why the phase out is so stupid. The high income people who don't receive it are in the best posture to spend it on big screen TVs and Pokemon cards creating the desired effect.

Of course it is all just bullshite.

I think they should give all the money to you.

Nobody else. Just you.

So how did that work out for the first stimulus many of us got? It must have failed if we need another one so quickly.

I think I know where you’re going with this. It’s obviously not enough money to last long. But it looks good to politicians in an election year.

The real answer, as you probably know, is to open up the economy.

If we are all in this together and going for the austerity angle...why shouldn’t your retirement checks be reduced?

Stock market basically even despite economic shutdown. Housing virtually unaffected so far. Might all be false hope but the two biggest assets people have (401k and house) haven’t gone into the shitter yet.

Is that like saying anyone who is drawing an employment check should also take a reduction in order to help their boss stay in business?
