The real loser is Russia. We honestly aren't so interested in Ukraine beating Russia. If they win so be it. We just can't have Russia winning outright. Geopoliticaly it is bad for everyone except Russia. What we want ideally is for Russia to retreat having gone broke trying to win and collapsing as a country and Putin toppled, while Ukraine is victorious but weak. We are slowly accomplishing this it seems.

What did Obama think of Uncle Joe calling out the Ukraine to stop investigating corruption.

All they want to do is point at Russia while the US government officials and those around them fleeced the country of Ukraine.

Back when the USSR collapsed, Ukraine had a bunch of nuclear weapons in its possession. America, UK and Russia got them to agree to dismantle them in exchange for a guarantee of their sovereignty. So here we are. Putin reneged.

subterfuge to get our puppet states. Ukraine is one of those. Iran was another for almost 30 years until the Ayatollah kicked out our puppet. Lord, I haven't even touched Latin America yet, but I can do so if you'd like.

And there’s a huge difference between soft power and invading a country in order to take it over.

The lack of support for the war means nothing, historically popular opinion has been impossible to judge in Russia because of fear.

You don’t say. We’ve done both. As has Russia.

Peace is always an option to everyone. It’s the terms that differ. Ukraine, and its backers in the US, will accept peace if Russia GTFO.

Don't we and other western democracies around the world support and encourage the "Democratic" process? Especially "Liberal Democracies" that support, Climate change, Women's right to choose, LBGTQ+ etc.

So, with that in mind, "IF" these 4 Oblasts voting on the referendum, choose to pledge their allegiance to Russia, by separating from Ukraine, would we respect that choice?

Or do we say it is a sham and not legitimate, unlike our own elections?

Good article today from Aaron Mate today.
quote:

The Russian government has not offered any additional detail or evidence for Putin’s claim that Ukraine and Russia were close to a “settlement,” and that Kiev’s NATO backers intervened to “wreck” it. But the Kremlin is also not the first to assert it. The claim originated with sources to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who described the episode to Ukrainian media outlet Ukrayinska Pravda.

According to their account, talks between Ukraine and Russia collapsed after then-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Kiev in April and informed Zelensky that Putin “should be pressured, not negotiated with.” Johnson also relayed that “even if Ukraine is ready to sign some agreements on [security] guarantees with Putin,” Western nations “are not.”

That report was followed this month by an overlooked disclosure from former White House Russia expert Fiona Hill. Citing “multiple former senior U.S. officials,” Hill wrote that “Russian and Ukrainian negotiators appeared to have tentatively agreed on the outlines of a negotiated interim settlement” in April. Russia would withdraw to its pre-invasion position, while Ukraine would pledge not to join NATO “and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries.”

If the Ukrainian Pravda account is accurate, then it was the UK’s Johnson, presumably acting at the behest of the US, that undermined this agreement.

Russia says U.S. wrecked Ukraine talks, but peace is still possible.
