This implies these people still pose some threat to society. So why are they allowed back into society?

Because the private prison lobby doesn't want to deal with their usual patrons killing all the child molesters in prison.

Despite what the internet says, our legal system is extremely lenient. Lots of multiple time offenders who are dangerous to society are let out onto the streets.

I don't have a problem with this, they took on the responsibility

To create the illusion of safety, just like the role of the TSA.

If you are a child molester, you SHOULD be killed.

I might not have an issue with the concept of registered sex offenders if, like everyfrickingthing else, they hadn't fricked it up by expanding it beyond all recognition.

Sure. If Joe down the street used to diddle 5 year olds, I suppose I'd like to know that.

But if Joe down the street nailed his 16 year old girlfriend 15 years ago when he was 20, I don't need to know that and frankly, it's bull shite that I could.

Why not register all criminals? What about registered drug dealers or armed robbers?

I don't think they should ever see the light of day again once convicted. However if they should get out of prison the list should be renamed neutered sex offenders.

That someone was put on the registry for sleeping with his 17 year 364 day old girlfriend (who also happens to have the “mental maturity” of methuselah) on his 18th birthday is mostly a myth. As is people being put on the list for taking a drunken piss in an alley one time. Just look at the registry in your area yourself and you’ll find exactly zero that fit this narrative and instead every one of them having done something truly terrible.

The key word in your sentence is "mostly". It most certainly happens.

Well, I didn't give that example.

I've no doubt that this is the case for the vast majority.

That said. I have to admit that even the registry in general seems like it's skirting the constitution. Why isn't there a murders registry? I mean, that would be good to know too!

Or maybe an attempted murders registry?

And, frankly, I guess if I want to know about criminals near me, knowing who the burglars are would be cool.

As usual, Shorty provides a reasonable, pragmatic response.

We have the list because....AS a parent, i want to know when there is someone convicted of this living near my children. As some could point out, as one's sexual preference goes, you aren't going to one day wake up and not desire molesting people anymore....and I want to know where that person is so my children stay away.

If this person was just a one timer caught exchanging pics of a 16 year old, well that sucks for them but it is what it is.

Can you browse the registers and find me just one single case?

Maybe because 1st degree murder is supposed to mean you never see the light of day again?

Are you really going to pretend to not be aware this exists? I'm not going through 1 by one to find them. Sheesh. I already acknowledged they aren't the norm or even common. But they DO exist.

Well. Ya know. That's why i gave the other examples. And, even 1st degree murderers do get out on occasion.
