They’d gotten used to Republicans who’d sooner give in and “seek compromise” than risk “offending” anyone and would get squishy as soon as the Left threw the first “Nazi” reference out there.

Another main reason is that life is too easy now.
People that have no choice but to work their asses off to survive like it used to be tend to not want to be taxed alot to pay for people that lazy and entitled.
A key pillar of being a modern democrat, perhaps the key pillar, is being a victim.
A key pillar of being a modern conservative is less intrusion into our lives and self sufficiency.
Another main reason is that life is too easy now.
