They all live in blue states where they get to deduct their states taxes from their federal so it evens out for them. Then they whine that they are somehow the ones subsidizing the red states. Math isn't their strong suit.

Even with the state deduction in place, you're gonna pay more taxes to live in NYC compared to Texas or most red states. Math isn't your strong suit.

Democrats don’t love taxes. They’re just willing to pay them for the programs that they fund.

Probably why Ted Kennedy hid his money offshore and John Kerry moved his yacht to a state with a more favorable tax structure.

Hell, Tim Geithner and Tom Daschle didn't even pay their taxes.

Dems are not the altruistic princes of this story.

When I’ve asked liberal friends, they give an answer of moral superiority - “I don’t mind giving up more of MY money to help others.”

Needless to say, when taxes are lower none of these self-righteous individuals donate the excess money...

tell them then give to goodwill or a church. if they want to pay more taxes tell them go to sweden or denmark and GTFO.

Mostly the answer I get as well

They don't understand the difference between charity and wealth redistribution enforced by the government behind the barrel of a gun.

It's even easier than that. Uncle Sam accepts checks made out to the US Treasury all day every day!

Feel bad about paying lower taxes? No problem, pay more until your desired level of self righteousness is achieved!

I don't understand it. Why do these liberal/democrat supporters want to give more of their hard-earned money back to the gov't?

Well for a good bit of them, the taxes don’t really matter to them either bc they don’t pay them or have people adept at getting around paying them.

There also are a good bit that just blindly follow instructions though.

This is the equivalent of saying “why do Republicans hate poor people.” They don’t. They hate taxes and government programs.

Democrats don’t love taxes. They’re just willing to pay them for the programs that they fund.

Learn the distinction. It’s not hard.

I also think that rich people like the Koch brothers are z'not paying their fair share" and see taxes a punitive. Don't act like they think that Taxes are some kind of necessary evil that they wish didn't exist.

People that support higher taxes don’t actually pay them. They’re either women that don’t make any money voting “for the children” or Bezos types that can afford to cheat on taxes

We understand the function and benefits of pooling money to do things we can’t do alone. For example, did you build the road that goes in front of your house? Could you? How about drainage? How about administering the voting system? Or public schools? We understand that in order to function there must be a minimum amount of revenue.

Republicans are driven by emotion only which profoundly interferes with their ability to count or do simple math.

I support the idea that government must tax at the same rate they spend (in non-recessionary times). Thus if they want to spend more, they must answer to their constituents when their taxes go up

The federal government collected a record $1,143,141,000,000 in individual income taxes through the first eight months of fiscal 2018 (Oct. 1, 2017 through the end of May), according to the Monthly Treasury Statement released today.

Because debt is bad. (insert photo of Dave Ramsey here)

I imagine this is where I differ from most folks here. But, I'd rather tighten the belt and pay a little more to pay down the debt than to kick the can down the road the the next generation. I just don't want to put this on today's kids.

And I know the knee jerk response will be, cut the budget. But if you look at the federal budget, roughly 70% of is non-discretionary spending and interest. You could cut EVERYTHING else (including 100% of the military) and we'd still be in a pickle, debt wise.

And this is going to ruffle a few folks here, but the driving force in non-discretionary spending is health care.

Paying taxes sucks, but the alternative is way worse. If anything is going to bring this country down, it's the national debt. BTW, who holds most of the U.S. Debt? The Chinese, followed by the Japanese. If this does not alarm you, it should.

Yeah, I would be OK with increased taxes that are only effective upon ratification of a Balanced Budget amendment.

Federal taxes? Screw that. I have no idea or control.

Local? More likely to support depending on how it's spent. I can give input, can easily be in touch with my elected people and can see instant benefit

The ultra rich are not concerned about taxes and have no idea of their impact on regular people. The poor don't pay them.
