You recall how the Left always uses (in the abortion argument) 'conservatives don't care once the baby is out of the womb'...
It shows them for their hypocritical projection. They are the party who don't care for kids, unless they can be used for grow their ranks. e.g. Drag Queen Reading Hour.

The majority of people are so entrenched in their understanding of the nature of reality that something like organized child sex trafficking rings challenges their status quo too much too quickly.
I think the most natural and immediate response to a new narrative that is that far outside of what you consider the realm of possibility is to just flatly deny it and attack the sources of the narrative.
There is a persisting phenomenon in the world that the jewish holocaust never happened. This was a well documented response by US service members who had been through so much already, that they were mentally too fragile to integrate something so utterly wicked and awful into their worldview.
