Why didn't George Bush come out and express support for Kavanaugh?

Why? He's an ex-president and they, by tradition, don't jump out into the public politic.

Coward if you ask me. Yes, called senators in private but he never went public with his support. Why, because that would give Trump cover...

Bush, unlike some, seems to respect the historical precedent of staying out of the spotlight once his term(s) end.

Bush lives up to the long traditional unwritten rule of ex presidents stay out of the public spotlight out of respect for the sitting presidents.

well that was until Trump

This.

And of course we all know which previous President thinks too highly of himself to exit the stage gracefully.

Sure... From USA Today

quote:

In an extraordinary — albeit veiled — attack, former President George W. Bush delivered a scathing assessment Thursday of President Trump and his policies, suggesting he has promoted bigotry and falsehoods to the detriment of the country and its values. Speaking at a policy seminar in New York, the nation's 43rd president never mentioned Trump by name. But his target was unmistakable.

From Washington Post

[quote]George W. Bush's unmistakable takedown of Trumpism — and Trump Former president George W. Bush spoke about the perils facing U.S. democracy on Oct. 19, and appeared to weigh in on President Trump's tenure. (The Bush Center) By Aaron Blake October 19, 2017 For the past nine years, George W. Bush has largely stayed out of presidential politics; he declined to criticize his successor, Barack Obama, and he chose not to endorse but largely ignored President Trump. While Mitt Romney and others spoke out publicly against Trump, Bush stayed above the fray. That changed in a big way Thursday. Speaking at a George W. Bush Institute event in New York, Bush didn't use Trump's name, but his target became clearer as the speech progressed. Here's a sampling: “Bigotry seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication.” “We’ve seen nationalism distorted into nativism.” “We’ve seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty. . . .

Guess as long as he doesn't say Trump's name while criticising him it is cool. Like I said... Bush has been acting like a bitch.

He had his eight years.

They're supposed to fade back and not be overt. Also considering how much negativity is still attached to Bush as of the last presidential, being in the background and doing work is a plus.

Otherwise you get the media breathless to report every goddamned fart from the Obama's.

Because he doesn’t want him to have to recuse himself if he ever needs him. Bush is a piece of shite!

He did, there were lots of rumblings that he was working all his Senator friends like Collins behind the scenes.
